I purchased SCS Blaze10 wheels 17 x 8.5 -10mm and wrapped them in Falken Wildpeak AT3W 265/70R17 tires. I have a stock 5th Gen TRD Off Road and am experiencing some rubbing on my driver side when reversing and turning the wheel. Is this normal? I’ve read going 285 will rub, but haven’t read about 265 tires rubbing. Just wanted to see if this is normal.

What made you pick the offset on the wheels you listed above?

You have a wider wheel and a lower offset now.

That increases your scrub radius which can cause rubbing on mudflaps, body mount, fender liner, or fender flare.

My suggestion is to align the truck with as much caster as you can......you can probably get around 3.8 - 4.0 degrees or so. This will get your tire away from your mudflap and body mount but it puts you closer to the front fender liner and flare. You can very easily push the fender liner forward a couple inches and trim a very small section of fender flare to eliminate the rub up front. This process is called the fender liner mod and there are vids on how to do it.

Check for clearance. I would think you'd be good to go after this but there is the possibility you still rub on the mudflap. A heat gun can help mold the mudflap a bit and give you a little more clearance if you need it.

This and -38 was the only available options. I would definitely need to lift the 4R if I went with -38.

I would do the fender liner mod first. I ran into the same problem when I got my SCS Ray 10 in the same specs.

Take a quick look at the fender liner mod and how to do it. That will show you what and where to cut.

But you might be rubbing on your mudflaps right now. An alignment with a higher caster adjustment could help alleviate that.

A friend mechanic also suggested the fender liner mod to my brother for his incoming 4Runner. He's looking to get Falken Wildpeak AT3W 265/70R17 tires and still deciding if he get method MV, scs or helo wheels matte black.

Let me know how things go for your brother. Hope he doesn’t have any rubbing. I’m still debating if I want to delete the mud flaps. I have rubbing there too.

Getting your caster moved forward would help. Easier to fix the front rubbing issues than the mudflap and body mount area. Fender liner mod is quick and easy.
