As with everything, you get what you pay for but there is a point of diminishing returns.

    Welcome!

How are you going to use this tent?
Is it just you or do you have a family or others traveling with you all the time?

I specifically bought an aluminum hardshell tent because I wanted durability and fast set up and take down. The tent stays on the 4 all year and is designed to survive world travel. The bedding stays in the tent and it takes about 45 seconds to set it up and about a minute to put it away. It's a one to two person max tent. This is what fit my situation. It should last a very very long time if I do my part.

Yes it was expensive but it was not the most expensive. After pricing out other tents and looking at what they offered and weighing in the durability aspect of it, I decided to buy once, cry once. If I had to do it over again I may have paid for one of the more expensive ones just to get a few more features. But in the end nothing is perfect and I have already made some mods that gave me those features the more expensive tents have. Good luck with your search, it took me a year to decide.

I went with a yakima skyrise. I had 40% off one Yakima product so it was a no-brainer. It seems a bit light duty for my purposes but is very light and super comfy. The only thing I'd have dinne different is the color. Its red so every morning the light that comes thru the tent body seems intensified by the red hue. I'll probably replace the tent body with a grey one in the future .

Unless you’re a hardcore camper, I don’t see the point of spending 2-4K on a tent. I’ll just sleep in the back of the truck lol

And yet you spent a shit load of extra money to buy a 4Runner with an appearance package and shocks... different strokes for different folks, obviously people value different things.

Your try at an insult doesn’t make any sense.

Spending 3k for something you’ll use once a year doesn’t make much sense. Me spending more money for an exclusive color and shit I don’t have to upgrade and drive it every day doesn’t compare...

It’s not meant to be an insult, but your attempt to justify spending a ton of unnecessary money could not have proved my point any better, that was the perfect response.

Get a Tepui, won’t regret it if you’re a hardcore camper and overlander. If you’re the occasional camper I’d just get a inflatable roll up Mat and sleep in the back or get a normal tent.

Hey thanks! I just never got around to it and posted most of the mods in the "what did you do to your 5th gen today" thread. I probably need to do one. Geez it would be a great undertaking at this point.
