Hey y’all! New 4runner owner here, so sorry if this is a silly question. I have the 2021 Trail Edition which comes with a Yakima roof basket already installed, but I am looking to attach an awning onto my roof for camping. Do I need an additional roof rack for this, or can I attach an awning to what I have now? If additional rack is recommended, does anyone have a good option that works with the Yakima basket?

    Welcome from SoCal!

I think it depends on which awning you are considering? I'm sure you can find some that will allow you to connect it to the factory rails w/out having to buy a whole roof rack.

The Roam awning is actually the one I am considering, so that is exactly what I needed to know! Thanks :) Did you buy brackets separately or use the brackets that came with the awning?

Also, you mind me asking how many feet that awning is? I’m thinking about the 6.5 length

Check gzila.com , they have some trick mounting options for awnings on the stock rails.

Contact retailers for ARB, Roam, ironman, Smittybilt, Rhino Rack and others. Someone will get you set up with brackets that will work with your rails, not the basket.

Also, Moonshade makes one that utilizes suction cups and does not need a roof rack to install.

Just a bit of warning before ordering from them, it’s impossible to get a hold of them if something is wrong with the order.
I’ve sent emails, called multiple times, and left voicemails and never got called back, or replied to my emails and phone calls. It’s been over 5 months.

Their products are great quality, customer service is the worst I’ve ever experienced

Thanks for the info, I did not know that. I haven't bought anything from them yet, I'm not sure their stuff works with my early trail edition rack. It's different than all the other racks.
