I have a 2024 trd off road premium. I’m told since it has push button start it should have remote start. I can’t seem to find it. Any help is appreciated

Welcome. Unless something changed in 2024, only the Pro and Limited offer that feature in the USA.

The aftermarket remote start I had on my Sorento locked the doors when remote start was activated (if not locked already) and if I shift out of park without putting the key in (and twisting to on) it immediately shut off.

Wondering why Toyota can’t just have the system look for the smart key after being unlocked in this case since these cars can and do detect when the key is in/not in the car.

All they need to do is make the vehicle shut off when the brake pedal is depressed and the key fob is not in proximity. That is how my wife's Grand Cherokee does it.

Accessorides has an option for the push start Tacoma that keeps the vehicle running when you get in. They say the 4Runner is coming SOON!

Also how the 2016 4runner (key version) works that I installed one in. If key not in ignition and in the "on" pos, kills the engine

I just installed the new kit on a 4Runner yesterday and it went smoothly and worked perfectly. No more engine shutoff when opening the door!

Hmm, in order to be able to drive the vehicle you have to press and hold the brake pedal for 3 seconds. It takes less than three seconds to push the brake and starter button. IMO, it just seems like trading one inconvenience for another. I suppose it will be a good option for some......choose your poison.

Waiting for my ORP delivery in BC and expected the factory remote start by fob wasnt available but funny it is different in Canada. Did you mean the Canadian TRD Off Road has remote start using app only or does the fob method also work for your ORP? Thanks.

Press lock button twice within 2 seconds
Press and hold lock button for 3 seconds

Mine has both remote start in the app and by pressing the fob lock three times. dealership told me all OR's in Canada have it.

You're better off without factory remote start. It's the worst ever, line of sight up to about 8 ft away if you have brand new batteries in your fob. I've read the aftermarket works MUCH better, I'd go that route but I do like the app start feature.

Well damn. I'm glad I saw this thread. I just walked outside to see if my 4R has remote start - pressed the lock button twice, pressed and held the lock button for 3 seconds... vroom! Pretty cool - since I didn't know my 4R had this. In my defense... okay, no defense.

Oh, @like2lean mine worked from 30'+ away from inside the house. Maybe your batteries aren't as new as ya thought?

A LOT of Toyota / Lexus models seem to have remote start built-in, even if it's not an advertised feature. The 2010 T4R I just bought has it. My 2021 Corolla I leased for a few years had it, even though remote start was never once mentioned online, in the brochure, at the dealer, or anywhere else. And my 2019 Lexus IS300 has it. They all work the same way from the key fob: "Lock. Lock. Looooooooooock".

After a lifetime of being an auto tech repairing/scrapping aftermarket remote starts in my humble opinion I disagree. Can't beat factory fully integrated sytems. No software conflicts and no butchered wiring. Don't get me going on the app. Certainly not subscription based. My '22 Canadian ORP works just fine from indoors and 30 ft away via the remote. So why do I even need an app?.

Worst fob ever for remote start. Two clicks of the lock button from a mile away on my wife's Grand Cherokee and it fires right up. This is actually my first vehicle ever to have remote start as my 2016 and 2020 Tacoma's were manual, and I was quite disappointed. Spend this sort of money on a brand new vehicle and this is the best fob they can provide?

My wife's BMW's remote start is wifi (or cell, or satellite or... ) based and uses an app. On one hand, it's nice that I can start the car from anywhere, e.g. 5 min walk to the car, it's warm/cool when we get there. But, the app is just that added couple steps that makes it a little less than awesome. The 4Runner fob - the actual weight and quality of the fob - feels like something you'd get for $.50 out of a machine in the lobby of a KMart., but I do like the simplicity of the remote start - just lock, lock, looooock. Also, I work from home so I'm in range of the truck more than not.

Exactly, and not even being a two way remote to let you know if it actually started is archaic. That why I need the app, to reliably start from further than 30 ft away, the 8ft comment was in jest. But here again Ford kicks the bejesus out of Toyota by providing a FAR superior fob and app...FOR FREE!

Dammit guys… making go outside and play, I mean test, the range - which is around 150’ with a clear line of sight. But really, at a normal walking pace, that’s like 30 seconds at best. From inside the house, the range drops to around 50’.

The car we had when I was a toddler also had remote start. It only worked from just in front of the hood latch, and you had to turn it really hard.

I went from thinking you were 8 or 9-yrs-old to thinking you’re 89-yrs old.

Hopefully I'll get there eventually. We had two crank-start cars when I was little, both from the mid- to late-fifties.
