Just purchased a 2023 SR5 Premium. Does it not have any remote start? I tried the key fob method (press lock 3 times, hold on 3rd) and nothing. Also, it doesn't even show this as an option in the Toyota app (still in my free trial period for all in app services).

Welcome. Your 4Runner will not have remote start from the factory. There are options for easy add ons out there. Some others will chime in with recommendations.

Only the Pro Bro and Limited have remote start in the US. I run a 12volt system and it works great. Your push button will turn off the engine when you open the door with any system.

Just the Pro and Limited. It's intergrated with the JBL system.

Search is your friend—this is how I educated myself and selected the right afternarket remote start for my truck. This continues to be discussed ad nauseum.

Thank all. I had searched several posts and came back with conflicting information (that’s how I found the key fob method that works on some Toyotas). I also read several threads about aftermarket options (some talked about these as an alternative to paying the monthly subscription once a free trial period ended).

Also, the factory option has a very limited range.

I just had the dealer install a remote start. I'm sure theirs is pretty much a plug and play one ( Compustar I believe ). But had the same one in my tacoma for 14 years and never had any problems. And with them installing, its covered under warrantee.

My 2 cents is this brand:

    https://www.n2designsinc.com/produc...nner-plug-play-remote-start-kit-push-to-start

If you have a push-to-start model, this is about as simple as they come. Seriously. I installed mine myself.

They also offer a smart phone module (and app). Gives you one FREE year subscription. And each year after is $40 (prob plus tax).

Here's a video for ya of an install:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkF5UaMORbI

(If you don't have a push-to-start model, they have other options as well. But install is a wee bit different.)

Edit: Their staff is ABSOLUTELY the best in support. Jimmy was my contact there. Hope this helps in some small way.

Since my 2019 Limited is out of Toyota safety connect support I'm thinking of going with Accessorides one with mobile app (has monthly subscription). This will allow me to have remote start and location just like the Toyota connected system.

But I also think since Accessorides system is easy to install, may be in an event of vehicle theft the thieves can unplug the system easily so location service would be useless to locate the vehicle? Not sure.. But I guess this won't be a problem for you as 2023 have the newest LTE version of connected service but without remote start for SR5 I assume?

Not sure, I didn’t get the LTE/app version, but I would guess a thief could disconnect the antenna to reduce efficacy…probably worth asking the guys at Accessorides how that might work as a theft deterrent/detection…I wonder if Toyota can help locate if you’re not paying for remote connect services or not. Hope I never have to find out!

Not so sure about the JBL integration. My Canadian spec '22 ORP is equipped with 100% factory remote start but being an ORP it is not equipped with the JBL sound system.

Go aftermarket, a lot more customization and key fob range.

I installed one myself on my 2023 ORP. I originally bought the N2 Design model (marketed as a simple plug in) and then found you have to splice wires which I was not willing to do. I missed the return time frame but it's available if you want to buy!!

I bought an Accessorides and it was super easy to install and no splicing of wires. It was truly plug and play. It was easy enough that I installed two more on my friends Tacomas and again super easy and plug and play for both of those.

Thanks! Sounds like the Accessorides is the way to go!
