I'm trying to figure out if I have remote start functionality and looking at other posted utube videos, I'm not sure that I do.

Can any confirm that this comes standard for this trim?

It might. Do the lock, lock, lock test.
Hit the lock button two times consecutively, on your third press, hold it. If the blinkers flash after a couple seconds it’ll start up if you have remote start. Just FYI there’s no x series pro, just TRD pro.

It has it. Standard on Pros. Can also remote start it with Toyota app.

The remote almost never works for me so I have to pay $80/year to use the app.

You have to pay yearly to use a Toyota app that’s for a Toyota vehicle you just paid thousands for? Damn:eek: seems like a little over the top on Toyota’s part.

Sucks. I assume the remote works fine for unlock and lock. I know with my 2014 the remote range for OEM remote start kinda sucks. I’m looking at 2021 Pro’s currently.

side note....read your comments on other forum on your Eibach springs. Will be doing this on my 2021 assuming Eibach makes updates for 2021, which it seems they are.

It does suck. My Jeeps started flawlessly and what is considered an extremely reliable vehicle can't make a reliable remote start. Then having to pay extra for an app is also annoying.

I've tried the lock, lock, lock hold but dont get any flash. There a setting I need to turn on in the vehicle itself?

Side note. I've downloaded the app on my phone for toyota app but dont have any remote start or lock/unlock there either. Suggestions?

Did you pay for the premium for a Pro and receive an ORP?

It’s only the Pro’s and I think the limited that have it. Yeah it sucks$80.00 to be able to start your pro with key remote or your phone app. I have no issues with the app working.

Doesn't the remote still work without subscribed to the annual service?

No. So if you want the convenience you need to pay. I just renewed mine.

When we bought our TRD ORP, well technically Venture, the saleswoman told us we had remote start. Had to do the research to discover that we actually do not have it. Oh well, doubt I would use it anyway.. certainly wasn't looking for it.

It a nice feature especially when it cold out leaving work. Or summer time when it’s really hot in the summer.

I think it's funny how Toyota basically forces me to shut down the engine while fueling up (inconvenient), stating environmental concerns (idling).. but then offers remote start, which runs the vehicle during it's most polluting time (engine warm up), as a convenience lol.

That's crazy though that you can't even use the remote start function without subscribing to their service. Weird!

The dealer can add remote start, but only on vehicles with the push button I believe, and they'll make it seem like it's a huge deal to get done. They added it to my Venture before I took delivery. Works the exact same as the Pros and Limiteds, except I don't need to subscribe to the app to use it. I just use the keyfob.

I've had my 2021 Pro for two weeks. I didn't know the remote start function existed until I saw this thread. I tried it out, and it works great. I've never used or signed up for any Toyota app. Are you saying that at some point Toyota is going to deactivate this function on my key fob unless I pay an annual fee?

Yes they will. That why I renewed mine. For $80.00 a year you can use your key fob or the Toyota app. When I’m at work I start my Pro on my phone before I go out. Then you have a warmed up Pro.

The only thing I don’t like also is when you open the car door it shuts the truck off. Then you need to restart it but at least it’s warmed up.

The idea that the keyfob would stop working when the app subscription ends makes no sense -- as a technical matter or in any other way. I don't believe that for a moment.

Regardless, no way I'm paying when my app subscription expires. It's sometimes handy but hardly necessary. Maybe if I was parking in a high crime area a lot it might be worth it, so I'd get the alerts when the car starts or wtvr. Otherwise forget it.

PS Both the keyfob and the app work fine for me on my Limited.

You do know that keeping your engine running while fueling can be incredibly dangerous right? It’s not Toyota, it’s a gas safety station thing lol.

When my subscription ran out I tried my key fob that’s how I know. Even my friend has a tundra and he said the guys on the forum were bitching about the key fob not working.

That's insane! That would seem to mean that Toyota is sending an over the air update to your car's computer to disable this keyfob feature unless you've renewed your app subscription! It's not like the keyfob is using the app to communicate with the car. Incredible! I can't believe Toyota would be that cheap! The fob and the app have nothing to do with one another!

Yeah I know what you mean. It does suck. It’s like everything else in this world. Everyone wants to charge you for everything. Just with new phones another money maker. I will keep it for another year then decide if I want it anymore.

Yeah. No f**king way am I buying a subscription for a service that literally costs Toyota nothing to provide. That's some BS. I've gone 30+ years without remote start, no problem going longer.
