    Hi there,

The light on my "SOS Safety Connect" turned red last weekend, or rather, I noticed that it was red last weekend. When I bought the 4Runner a month ago it was green. Yes, it's out of warranty and no, I'm not paying for anything. Any ideas on why I've got a blaring red light on the ceiling now? I would prefer no light to green or red...

    Thx

It means you don’t have service.

I didn't phrase my question properly - why would it change randomly when the system was already not functional and has anyone removed the red light?

I believe there is a fuse you can remove. Depending on the year it could be the trial period ended of the subscription of the previous owner expired.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
    • Green light means active:
When the SOS light is green, it signifies that the Safety Connect system is functioning normally and ready to be used.
    • Red light indicates issue:
A red SOS light signifies a potential problem with the system, requiring further investigation by a Toyota technician.

    What year is your 4Runner?
What does the DCM indicator in the upper right of your infotainment screen look like? Does it show any lit bars? All bars grayed out? All bars gray and crossed out?

Too poor to buy anything now
You probably got a free month of it when you bought it.

Wouldn’t it have gone kaput when the relevant 3G network went down?

You can see if you can hit the button (it would go to a phone menu if it works) to get to a representative and disconnect it which should get that light to turn off (except at startup) but I suspect it won’t work and you’ll just have to paint it.

You can pull the DCM/mayday fuse but that’ll take the microphone with it if you ever take calls in the car.

No infotainment - I replaced it with an aftermarket head unit.

It took six weeks for the light to turn red and it coincided with my removal of the overhead console to swap out the microphone for a new one.

I have an aftermarket mic. I'll look at this. Do you know which fuse that is?

On my 2022 the fuse is labeled DCM. On your 2018 it could be labeled DCM or MAYDAY. In the interior fuse panel.
