    Edit . . . I am clear

Hi everyone! I've been posting here for a bit but I might as well make my introduction, because I'm stuck in sand off the 395, lone pine area.

My third time on dirt in the runner, but I've been to baja mil as a spectator/passenger a few times.

anyone want to come exploring?

I am uninjured, with water, half tank gas, food, and some light recovery gear. I'm not sure how deep I should dig the hole.

Wouldn't hurt to post on Tacomaworld. Maybe in the regional discussion for California.
Alot more eyes on that particular area

Hope you find some assistance. Trying using the bottle jack and get some rocks under your tires. Stay safe.

Let your air down to 10-15 lbs on all 4 tires, unless 2wd. As stated before, jack up and fill holes under tires with whatever you can, rocks, branches, floor mats, anything you can to gain traction. I would use 4wd with ATRAC in hi-4wd in reverse, once moving, keep it moving so not to lose momentum, get to hard pack or paved road, coast to stop. Someone pushing on front of vehicle really helps. Hike back in to pick up stuff you left there to lighten the load. I’ve done this maneuver 4 or 5 times using just floor mats until I made it back to hard pack. It can be daunting, but tenacity will prevail.

    You still stuck dude?

How far from the road are you?

You try airing down? And using atrac?

Are you using 4wd? Do you have 4wd?

Edit: I see he has 2wd in his profile.

Im at the restraunt. There's vacancy nearby and an auto store and a hardware store. My plan is to eat sleep and shovel, but maybe I will meet someone with a lil rig

    Glad youre in town.

It's almost 9pm now. I'd get some sleep and ask around town if you can pay anyone to go out and tow you out.

There's gotta be someone there who would be happy to make a quick buck.

Let us know if not tho. How close are you to home? You got work tmw?

Yeah I'm in a motel room. I got a referral to a respected local tow company. I'm only about 4 miles out, if the tower can swing the river crossing :D

Looks like you've learned the lesson I recently learned!

Get some rest and let us know what the bill for the recovery comes to - I got lucky and had someone come along and yank me out when I got us stuck in the middle of the freaking forest.

Thacrow the tow probably makes sense it could be very fast and direct. But I would give a bit of a tour if someone wants to pick me up at 11 or earlier!

I feel like the only lesson I learned today is The Shovel At Home Would Not Have Been Too Big

Here’s another lesson, courtesy of me: even though you have an axe and the dead tree isn’t hard to cut through, just turn around when your wife says to.

BUY recovery mats!!! Keep blankets in the rig and CARRY your shovel!

Been there, done that! Walked out to a phone a couple of times! Learn from your mistakes!

ps: The wife is ALWAYS right!

“What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.” This quote is attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche, a German philosopher, cultural critic, and scholar.

Or, as we paraphrased it in grad school: "
What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger Except Bears. Bears will kill you"

I'll post a writeup later. For off road recovery this business charges more than 200 hourly. Yes the recovery was straightforward but I'm glad I got the tow. If I had been injured or snakebit while I was shoveling it would have been bad. Of course using a shovel should be safer than crawling around with a crowbar but it seemed foolish to return to my rig alone. I'm calling it a rig, not a truck or wagon, but maybe car is more appropriate!

another lesson learned: prefer out and back routes if you have a baby rig

definitely if you're solo have a plan (to abandon, to flee). Or keep supplies to stay. I had to use all of my plan.

Having seen bears rip off car doors, trunk lids, ignore electric fences to get to beehives, tip over dumpsters, I'm not sure such a thing exists=even if it did, once you tripped you would be there forever.

Glad to hear you are back on the road!

If you do the FaceBook thing, there are plenty of recovery groups on FaceBook that are happy to help for free. "SCOR+" is a popular one, So Cal Offroad Recovery. There is also High Desert Off Road Recovery.
