Recent 4Runner buyers input on break in "smell"

I test drove a new 2024 4Runner last week. Afterwards it had a distinct smell like burning oil.
Dealer sales person said it was "grease" burning off and was typical of a new 4Runner.

Did I get bs'd? Any other recent 2024 4Runner buyers experience the same?

 

I had the same odor on my new 23.

This is normal. this smell will be there first couple hundred miles.

 

I love me some new vehicle smell.

 

As long as you don't see evidence of a leak anywhere, it is normal. Mine had the same smell when new.

 

My 23 smelled like that the first week or so, all good since then.

 

Mine smelled like that when I drove it home from the dealership two weeks ago. It's mostly gone now that I've put about 200 miles on my 4Runner.

 

No BS. Had the same experience with my 2018.

 

Most noticeable are the brake rotors burning off rust prevention oil for the first hundred miles or so, smells like burning plastic. And within the first 20 miles you can see smoke from the front wheels. Love it!

Very common for new vehicles. I have 100 miles on mine and still have the smell but it’s decreased.

 

When I go tomorrow to complete the deal on my 2024 4Runner I am going to give a good look under the hood and check the oil level. At age 71 I don't give a damn what they think at the dealership.
