Rear Tailgate Slider?

Hello, (From Fingerlakes Ny)
I have a 2013 Toyota 4 Runner Limited. New to this 4 Runner Lifestyle and starting to understand how much fun and addicting the extras can be lol! Recently Found out about the Rear Cargo Tailgate Slider? Added a photo to help if no one had any clue what I am talking about.

The more I research trying to find one to purchase to add into my 4 runner the more I see they are rare? and or only can be purchased in the vehicle itself from the dealer? Correct me if I am wrong. I Found one on a Walmart website but $110 seemed too good to be true or even the right part, and when I do find the photo of this on a website there is never a description to tell me what exactly I am purchasing.

This is the part number that keep reoccurring but never links me to a part when I search it: PT924-89100-20

I understand you purchase the initial sliding mechanism which is to be bolted to the frame of the 4 Runner itself? and then the actual try that slides on it?

(lots of ? because I'm still trying to figure it all out)

Anyone have any experience purchasing one of these, installing or anything? would love to know. Thank you!

 

PT924-89100-20 appears to just be a little fence to keep things from falling off of the slider when extended. You would still need to get that elusive sliding cargo deck.

 

That is the piece I am looking for, I do not have a cargo sliding Deck and I am wondering how I could obtain one to put into my 4 runner.

 

You have to purchase one from someone who had it on their 4runner and is selling it because they no longer want it. There is nowhere to order one, not even directly from toyota, as far as I know.

They do come up for sale occasionally on the 5th Gen 4Runner Parts Marketplace.

 

found one on marketplace and paid $500. I felt like that was fair considering how hard to come by they are, that and parting it out at the dealer is over $2k. took a little over an hour to install.

 

Is it pretty much plug and play? Or is there drilling/tapping involved?

 

You have to drill the two rear holes to expose the threaded inserts underneath. The good news is the inserts go all the way through so if you screw up you can still bolt it down. My problem was they sprayed the coating underneath and some went up into one of the inserts and clogged up some the threads so I had to cut one of the bolts shorter, but that was the only hiccup. Still only took about 90 mins tops

 

It seems like one of those things you order from the factory beforehand.
Trying to add one to your 4 runner after the fact. .......just seems like a very stressful install?

It's very straight forward. Just have to be mindful when you bore out the holes in the back for the bolts.

 

Can’t order it from the factory if you buy a used car. I found a cavalry blue pro with only 5k miles on it and I wasn’t going to pass it up just because of the slider…. So I added one. Clearly if you are buying new and it’s an option you want, that is the only way to go

 

So I went through this preCovid and I ended up buying one off a guy in CO who was selling. Its a nice upgrade and things went smooth as long as you take your time.

 

Personally, I can't see much advantage in having one. Just me though.

Well....I'm 66 with a ruptured disc and still don't feel the need for it.

Its great if you are running a cooler and gear in the truck and want access to it easily. This allows me to keep the cooler sideways and pull it out to open it and not have the climb into the back to get stuff. Im not 66 (far off from it), remember work smarter not harder!

 

Totally. I have a Tacoma and my knees don’t like me crawling in there to drag stuff out anymore. Other benefits? Pull it out and sit on it like a tailgate. Pull it out and use it as a flat working/eating/cooking surface…. The big one for me? Being able to have a flat sleeping surface for those quick overnight kayak tournaments… do NOT want to have to build a wooden platform in my 4runner. I have one in my Tacoma and as nice as it is in the back of a pickup? Don’t really want that homemade thing in my 4R….

 

Yes, it is a nice option for those that camp and haul coolers and such. We just don't really do that anymore.
I have a couple of flexible/foldable cordura cargo containers with adjustable compartments that serve me well.
My rear seat backs stay up for the most part, and if I do fold them down for cargo, I can just access it through the rear doors.
I can certainly understand the slide out for more adventurous folks than us.

 

I have a question about the rear cargo slider. does it come out so you can clean under it when needed?
