Hey all! My 2014 has nearly 300k miles and has developed a rear end whine from about 40-60. Sounds like it's T-SB-0074-19. The only thing that gives me pause is the noise does go away when it leans over under right hand turns, as if it's a wheel bearing going out.

If it is this TSB, is the only solution replacing the whole differential?

TSBs is what toyota will do if a customer complains about a problem within warranty. You could take it to a shop that specializes in differentials and get a quote.

Or you could look for a lower mileage unit if you’re sure it’s the diff

My issue is I can't really afford shop rates around here, but I'm not entirely sure it's the diff. I just need to take a day off work to figure it out I guess.

Mine has a super light, but audible whine around 60-70mph. It could be my 1.5in lift in the back. Maybe it’s sensitive to pinion angle. Then again it seems to happen even without a lift judging from the tsb.

i rode in a 3rd gen a while back that had just driven cross country. The diff howl was insanely loud, but the owner hardly seemed bothered by it. I wonder hiw muchnof a problem a little whine actually is?

    any diff experts on here?

My wife's 2020 whined a bit from 65mph+. My 21 Tundra is whining as well at just 9k miles. My wife wasn't bothered by it but I am. Currently waiting on a new carrier assembly from Toyota, been back ordered for the last 5 weeks. The shop manager said it won't grenade but can be annoying having rick flair in the back seat.

Sound more like a wheel bearing than a diff due to the fact it changes when you sway the car. I would get it on a lift or stands ( very securely and pointed away from buildings!!!) and see of you can isolate exactly where it is coming from, left, right or middle.
