I went to use my rear defroster and i noticed that it was not working on the top four lines of the glass. There is a small spot on the top four lines in a row that looks like it is trying to work but not going all the way across. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Don’t turn the rear defroster on again until you research rear windows shattering without warning. This is a known 4th Gen issue where something goes wrong with the connections causing some of the lines to heat up while others don’t. Depending on the ambient temperature, this can result in unexpected shattering of the glass.

I didn’t find anything here but check on the other forum and there’s also a about it.

Well thanks for the heads up. It does not look like it is a simple fix so i will just end up not using it any more.

Toyota actually extended the warranty coverage through 2018 but IIRC, it was only if your glass actually broke, not like a preventative thing to keep it from happening. I think that’s total BS but what can you do? The bummer is that the rear defroster switch also turns on the heated mirrors so when I need the mirrors defrosted, I turn it on just long enough to get them clear and then immediately off.
