Anybody have this issue with their 5th gen? Just happened to me. Seeing if anybody has any experience with replacing it. Anything i should look for or get when replacing it since i’ll be replacing it myself. Since i’ll be in there, should i replace the bearings while i’m in there, and would i need my own press for that?

How many miles on the clock?

Check for bearing play to see if it’s necessary.

    post back either way!

    cheers

i got 116k right now. haven’t drove it since i found out which was midway December. I think i’m to the point where i’m just going to buy that 20T harbor freight press and knock it out.

Most likely those bearing are good for another 150k plus if it had regular gear oil changes.

    spacer lift front 1inch
the rear diff of the axle shafts ... then the vent is on the rear diff. the venting is rusted or a frozen lock up ... the forum members are moving the gas cap around it in this area of the diff vent .....
my 2000 silverado GM the diff vent is around the gasoline cap .....OEM FACTORY spec ..also my 1996 Impala is the OEM off the rear diff , the venting is the factory .
you have to inspect the venting on the rear diff vent ..
