First of all I’m new to the Forum I like to read these when looking for cool things to buy. But today I came looking for answers.

So today I was sitting in my car in a parking lot doing some paper work, I had put my sun roof back and cracked both front windows with the vehicle off. No music no lights I don’t think it should have been completely off. When I went to leave my dash lights lit up as normal and everything was regular but it didn’t want to turn over. I could hear it almost turn over but it just didn’t want to. I’ve had batteries die on me before in other cars and it would just make a tick noise when I turned the key. After turning the key a few times and just hearing try to kick over I called a friend to give me a jump. I turned the car to the on position and rolled my windows up and sunroof, turned it back off then tried one more time and it started. I have no idea why or how but please reply keep in mind it’s a 2019 with 40,000miles. Thank you I’ll be anxious to see what you all say!

I would get the battery tested. I've heard of newer Toyota batteries crapping out prematurely.

That sounds a bit unusual, though. Maybe something was drawing power that you weren't aware of. :notsure:

Any green gunk on the battery terminals? Corrosion build up can cause intermittent issues like this... or as said above, battery could just be on its way out.

+1 for checking the terminals for corrosion. Good call! It can make for weird behavior like the OP describes.

The battery has a dead or dying cell. The light demand you placed on it by rolling up the windows and closing the sunroof temporarily moved(agitated) the particles that were shorting that cell, thus allowing you to start the truck.

Thank you fellas for replying I really do appreciate it My battery cables are squeaky clean. And I haven’t gotten my voltage tester out yet I will be looking into all the suggestions later today.

You need a good battery tester to really check a battery. One that can load it, not just check the voltage. Most auto parts stores will put your battery on a real tester and check it out properly for free.

Alternatively, you get a sort-of good test if your meter can read current of a high enough value. You can hook your meter in-line with the battery, and crank the engine. See what current is drawn when you do. Be careful, though. The current draw of the engine during start can be pretty high. If you're not sure your meter, or it's cables, can handle the current, don't do it. Take it to an auto parts store. They have whats called a pile tester that will properly check the battery for you. That's really the way to go.

    Good luck to you!

Battery or lose battery connection issue man, have had the same issue before. I dont think you have anything big to worry about. Like others have said, take it to an auto shop and have them test the cells.

Just be very careful measuring automotive current flow. Especially cranking. It only takes a little bit over the meter's ability, or the cable's current carrying capability, to smoke check something.
You let the secret, magic, smoke out, and, well, you know. :annoyed: :spending: :frustrated:

I would strongly reccommend the auto parts store tester. it's made to test battery current capability, and can handle a lot more current flow than your meter. Remember, it's not just voltage that matters. It's the current the battery can produce. Even over a short period, a dead cell will reduce the battery's capability drastically.

    Good luck to ya!

All signs point to a bad battery.

Doesnt matter if it’s a 2019, these things happen.

This thread started in mid March - hopefully by now you got it all figured out. Why not let us know what the corrective action turned out to be.
