So I finally got my RCI skids bolted on today... should have read about how close they get to some of the exhaust pipes (and I should have just known with the cat guards).

I rattled canned them (ordered raw aluminum) with rustoleum bed liner paint and now I'm starting to worry it will burn off. I don't care if it flakes and comes off - just don't want fumes inside and definitely don't want to start a fire.

I got the cat guards and I think it was the transfer case skid that sits so close to the pipe. Anyone had any issues?

How close we talkin'? Is it touching? No good. If it's not touching I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Nah, not touching so I think it will be fine. Closest point is about 1/4" away? Just not a lot of air flow down there anymore with all the skids

Just went back and checked because I couldn't remember if I checked before or after I tightened things down. There's probably a good 3/8" gap so it should be fine. Not sure how that transfer case skid touches the exhaust for some people. I didn't have to use the spacers provided. That part of the exhaust is actually flattened on mine so maybe they made a change at some point.

I don't think it'll be a problem. I have RCI as well, engine, transmission and cat guard plates. All raw aluminum. I did rustoleum the engine skid plate (only this piece) over a self etching primer and it's doing great. Been over a year with it and I don't see any heat burn issues on the paint.

I drove it to work work earlier this week - no smells and no vehicle fire. :bananadead:

Haven't checked if the paint is bubbling yet but think I'm good. I well check on it over the next couple of months and see how it goes.

Apparently I have a problem just sitting back and enjoying the fruits of my labor. I over analyze after the fact.
