    Has anybody tried to interface a Pi 400 w/ a 5th gen 4runner?

It seems to me that would address a lot of issues that as of now have to be solved by retro fitting to a $1200 head unit.

Probably a pretty big project, but doable...

Retrofitting a headunit from a different OEM headunit or just any aftermarket headunit?

I've looked @Kenwood, Pioneer & Alpine head units, all w/ GPS, (a must have). The cheapest is the Kenwood @ $850 plus $250 for plug & play interface.

I think a Pi could do everything an OEM or aftermarket head unit could do for about a quarter of the price... if you don't count your own development and programming time.

I'm retired, so I've got the time...

How about one of the plug in wifi carplay things. I got one and I am able to get youtube, GPS, netflix, spotify, pretty much full out andoid on the screen. I just connect to the USB and then WIFI to my phone for the data.

Trailgrid pro offers plug and play Sony solutions. I used a $139 iDatalink Maestro plus the $39 harness but you don't have to use that. You can spend less with simpler wiring harnesses.

The Pi idea is cool but I wouldn't know where to start and I wouldn't know where to source the connecters.
