    Hey all,

I need to borrow some knowledge. I need to replace the rack and pinion for my rig (420K). Two questions:
    1. Any suggestions on quality aftermarket rack and piñons??
2: In addition to the steering component what else may I need?? Bushings, seals, lines/bolts in case of wear/rust?
    Thank you for any insights.

I just did this, I’d get a rebuilt OEM unit (mine was $440 + core charge refunded by returning the old R&P from CVJ Axels) I’ve heard lots of folks whose AM didn’t last long. Good time to get new tie rods as well.

I 100% agree with the guy above me. Buy new or rebuilt OEM. It’s a lot of work to do it twice.

IMO, some of the OEM parts are just way too expensive for how old these 3rd gens are... I replaced my steering rack, took a chance and ordered one from RockAuto.com, along with both the supply and return lines between the PS pump and the steering rack. It's been fine for the past 2 years, no leaks, no strange noises. It came with the inner tie rods and boots, and all the mounting bushings:

Hope this helps with your decision.

Edit: Sorry, misspoke about the bushings, I did have to order them separately:

And while I'm at it, here's the PS lines set I ordered as well:
