Problem with ch4x4 small push switch

Has anyone had any issues with the ch4x4 push switches? I’ve used them in my Tacomas without any problems but in my 4Runner I have to push real hard to actuate the switch

 

What push switches are you talking about?

My SR5 has a rotary knob to put into 4 wheel drive and the OR has the traditional shifter.

 

What exactly is a ch4x4 switch?

 

Ch4x4 is the company name; Aftermarket OEM style push button switches for adding lights and other stuff. They fit into the existing blank switch spaces.

I’ve had this happen with other brand switches, where is was the switch itself (even uninstalled it was hard to engage), but have had good luck personally with ch4x4 ones. As said above, could be catching on something, or could just be a bad switch.

Just to say... the only switch brand I have ever seen on this forum no less with consistently bad reviews is CH4x4. People get anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months of use, then the switch binds, doesn't actuate, all sorts of issues.

Spend the couple extra dollars and get AirOnBoard or OTRATTW switches and know you're getting good switches.

Just ordered some push switches from AOB

 

I had ch4x4 as well as seen others had the same issue. Mine would stick and needed a smack to free it up. Tossed them and went air on board and they have been problem free almost 2 years now

I wish OTRATTW offered Toyota style push button switches... if you ever need a contura/rocker switch, that's def the way to go.

Honestly, I have a feeling that Cali Raised, CH4x4, and AOB probably all get their switches from the same source; and it's just a matter of getting good ones or some from an unlucky bad batch. I've seen such a mix of reviews on all of them over the years that it leads me to that hunch. Or just the nature of the small sized switch and style make it a difficult one to reproduce consistently.

 

My compressor switch was sticking. The switch cover was binding on the 4Runner mounting location when depressed. Clearance was too tight. Filed a slight bevel on the switch top and bottom. Problem solved.

 

must 4runners have a piece of plastic in the OEM whole that need to be filed down if your switches are not staying depresed is for all aftermarket push switches not only CH4X4

 

I had same issue. Your CH4x4 switch is fine. Take it out and look at stock trim opening. Panel opening for switch has few small protrusions. Take a blade or wood chisel to it and shave those down flat with opening. Reinstall the switch and you are all set. G.L.
