Premium quality KDSS compatible lift kit

Mod bug is bugging me lol. I saw a lifted black 4Runner today and it looked amazing. I am looking at a 3 inch lift

I really like them black 4R's too, especially all jacked up.
You got many options that are KDSS compatible, if you stay 3" and under. Save up and invest in KDSS "geometry" correction parts by Dr. KDSS for example (somewhat optional), then you got best of both worlds - and can probably ignore the KDSS haters.

Deep pockets, regular pockets, or change purse?

I asked because your thread title said Premium. That usually means deep pockets. Elka, King, etc., plus new upper control arms. Can run $4k. Regular pockets can be Bilstein, Eibach, Dobinsons and the like. But, 3" usually requires upper control arms anyway in order to get a good alignment with that much lift. 2" - 2.5" can get away with oem upper control arms.

 

How good are Icon and Ironman?

 

Regular pockets here (Dob IMS) 3"/2" and UCA's on KDSS 4Runner. No issues for almost three years.

Icon has a reputation for leaking. But, some people really like them.

I hear good things about Ironman. IIRC, one guy had an issue where they got more lift than advertised.

 

I don’t run any of these, but I’ve heard good things about them; Dobinsons, Ironman, Bilsteins are all good.

Keep the lift below 2.5 and avoid UCA upgrade. All of these are “extended” length shocks and should improve your travel. You should also consider the rear, if you upgrade your rear springs for lift but ignore the shocks, you’ll find yourself topping out in the rear. That’s easy to forget.

Icons seem to leak, every person I’ve met running Icon had leaky shocks with low mileage.

If you’re going to upgrade wheels be careful to consider the whole system, you’ll be able to minimize rubbing when you buy the 285s.

As long as you don't get ICON UCAs they are fine.

Mine didn't leak before I got rid of it. But wasn't a lot of miles. Less than 20k.

 

My local dealer recommended this. He said it will fit 285s and is compatible with KDSS. This thing is too cheap to be good. What do you folks say?

And it looks like that kit they give you a pre-assemble shockspring and spacer? No thanks.

 

8 hours seems insane. I'm terrible at working on vehicles and it took my neighbor and I 6 hours to put a lift on my 22. That's a wild cost IMO.

 

I'd pass on that.

You can get top hat spacers for cheaper and they're easy to install. Also, the preload type spacers have been said to negatively affect ride quality.

 

Don't go to the dealership.

Any local off road shop is probably better.

 

When a product price is too cheap to be good/true but the dealer recommends it, he likely sees dollar signs in the labour. Labour hours make many businesses drool!

 

Sorry I spell labour with a "U", we're weird in Canada. And damn $2116 is nearly $3000 in our Canadian monopoly money

 

Problem is even the cost of just the kit is high for a spacer lift.

 

@Dillusion oh snap, I haven't looked dat much Wescott stuff I thought that included springs or shocks!
