PPF (Paint Protection Film)

Has anyone here done PPF on your 4runner and if so, if you did partial, do the lines show and do they eventually get dirt around the edges? What brand did you use and would recommend doing it? Is full body better? Curious if anyone regrets using it or if you found it was worthwhile.. Thanks!

 

I have a 2015 Tundra (white) and it came with the PPF as a dealer installed item. In my opinion, the absolute worst product ( I keep the truck washed and waxed). Is has mold stains underneath, its yellowed, and has dirt all around the edges. The only good thing I can say is when I pay someone to remove it, the truck will look at a lot better!

 

My truck is black, and the primer underneath is light gray. Which means a rock chip screams "look at me"!! I had the front end covered with 3M Expel film. It is worth every penny.

 

I had the entire hood, full front fenders, front bumper, lights and mirrors done on my 2024. Worth it after all the chips I experienced with my old 2021.

 

I have 2 vehicles done. My 19 C7 Z06 is black fully wrapped. Best decision with the black paint. For my 23 Pro is SO I had the track wrap done with that. Stek paint protection was used. No issues on either. My 4runner the whole front end is wrapped. About a foot up the doors and rear panels. Also the pillars. It were the 4runner get the most chips. You need to do a lot of reviews and researching on a good installer.

 

Yes, full 3M precut bra. It was a major PITA to install but it’s held up very well after 6 years of use. Definitely saved the front end from unnecessary chips and wear.

 

Xpel installed on entire front. Worth its weight in gold if installed correctly. Cheap film will turn yellow and many places don't wrap the edges of the film. This allows dirt to get trapped underneath.

Go to a reputable shop to see their products and make sure they wrap the edges otherwise you might think twice about their services.

 

I just did the full front and sides with Xpel. Looks amazing. I had the garbage from the dealership on my 2017, turned yellow in a year and got moldy edges. You'll drop $5000-$6000 for the good stuff, but it's worth it. We're driving future vintage vehicles now.

 

Did Xpel on the entire front which includes the front bumper, mirror, full hood, deadlights, and fenders. I got the Xpel PPF put on a few weeks after purchasing my 2024. The lines aren't noticeable unless you're looking for them. Gives me a lot of peace of mind from the rock chips everyone complains about. My car still looks like it just came off the lot

 

Similar perspective as others. I had XPEL put on the bumper, partial hood, mirror caps. I've had various PPF solutions on my cars going back to the early 2000s and would continue to put it on any vehicle I own. As others have noted, finding an experienced installer is a must. Especially given the odd angles of the 4R bumper. And also ensuring they use a quality PPF product (Xpel, 3m, SunTek)

 

I have a 2015 Tacoma with it on. In the past year it has gone south and now has a ton of mold/dirt whatever under it. It is horrific to try and remove. I just started trying and I wish it was never applied at the dealer. Looks terrible now while the rest of the truck is immaculate.

 

What brand do you have? The XPEL PPF has a 10yr warranty

 

No idea. It was dealer applied. I bought the truck with 29k on it. Looked good for a long time. Now, not so much.
