    Good afternoon,
I am considering purchasing a 2017 4Runner from a local Toyota dealership. I am located in Virginia and this truck is from New York. Overall its very nice but I am concerned about some rust underneath the truck. Would anyone be willing to provide feedback on the condition of this truck? One of my main concerns is the amount of rust on the suspension components. Do you see this as a major problem? Thank you for any feedback in advance.

From the pictures most of the rust appears confined to the surfaces where you would expect to see it. There are a couple of suspicious spots but mostly pretty easily removable. How do the rocker panels and door sills look? Maybe you can get an experienced mechanically minded friend to help you look. Price, exterior and interior appearance are important too.

Welcome to the forum! That doesn't look bad at all, just some surface rust. Pretty typical for a vehicle from the northeast or midwest. If you're planning on lifting it or doing other work, you might find that some of the bolts are rust seized... but using something like PB blaster on all the bolts beforehand should take care of it.

If it were mine, I would also want to still address the surface rust. I would clean well, wire brush the rusty spots, then hit it with a rust converter, let that sit 24-48 hours to work, then spray it with either some POR15 or even just Rustoleum satin black and satin clear. Help keep it from getting any worse, and should make it look like new again underneath.

Thanks for everyones feedback on this. I decided not to buy this one because of the rust and it had zero service history information. It just looked like overall the previous owner didn't really take care of the truck. I am continuing to search for another one though.

    Thanks

I have lived in the Northeast my whole life and seen a lot of rusty cars. I was going to say exactly what the previous post said: "It just looked like overall the previous owner didn't really take care of the truck. "
A 3 year old 4 runner with that much rust is not promising. I've seen 10 year old trucks that looked better!
