Picture request: -38 Offset Wheels

If you have 17x9 -38 wheels post up some pictures!

I'm really considering adding some 1.25" spacers behind my 17x8.5 -12 RRW wheels...
This is basically the equivalent offset of 17x9 -38


I may just slap some spacers on to see if I like the look or not...

I'm on 285/70/17's but panning to move to 285/75/17s (34s) soon

 

This is the only one I could find. This guys on 35s (315/70/17)
I'm not quite ready for a regear so sticking with 33.5 - 34s for now.

 

This old website is nearly useless with all the ads... But there are some 4Runners there with -38 offset wheels.

Convince me not to do this xD I think the wide stance looks good with a lift...

 

I think that stresses the bearings, possibly other components.

Figured I'd come back and finish beating this dead horse

Installed the spacers after all. Seems to go well with the Dobinson's long travel suspension and 34s.

Not being a jerk as I am genuinely curious, but what can be done to correctly mitigate added stress on other components?

 

Proper suspension setup is key. When widening the stance, OEM ball joints wear out faster. On all of the rigs I’ve built over the years, I’ve always run total chaos uniball uppers and lowers. Heim joint tie rod ends, etc. I’ve never had anything fail.

 

I appreciate this info. I have just begun modding mine, but want to keep the Toyota reliability lol.

 

Toyota reliability only lies in the drivetrain. Everything else has been trash for real offroad use. Aside from the frame rust problems, the factory shock towers are known to crack, rear bump stop mounts bend easily, radiator support is notorious for cracking, the electronics are terrible, rear link mounts are susceptible to bending, etc. There’s too much to list, but off the lot, these vehicles are nowhere close to the reliability Toyota had in the 80’s and 90’s.

 

I've heard the uniball UCA's and LCA's make a ton of noise. Any experience with that?
Also, what heim joint tie rod ends would you recommend?

My 4Runner may become a full time wheeling/ adventure rig soon. A new job opportunity and a longer commute allows me to upgrade some things and get a different daily.

 

The uniballs get noisy if not maintained with dry PFTE lube.
