Paint the Hood or Order New One (and paint that)?

2008 Sport - Silver

Paint on my hood is getting bad. Salt air and summer heat with no garage to park it has really taken it's toll on the paint. The roof, hood, and pillars all need painting, but the hood by far is truly awful looking. No dents, but a lot of paint is pealing/chipping and I can see a ton of micro rust dots forming on every chip.

I was surprised to find brand new hoods in the $170 range, unpainted which seems cheap. I'm thinking it would cost me more to take my existing hood in. Labor alone to grind it down, primer it, sand and prep would cost a lot more than if I brought in a brand new hood.

Thought about painting it myself as I grew up in a body shop but I don't have any tools and I'd be spending all this money on the right paint tools for a one time job. Plus having a small garage would be impossible to paint the roof.

Thoughts?

 

Take it to Maaco for an estimate, if they make it look good for about 5 yrs. it may be worth it.
