Hello. I just purchased a 2017 limited and someone hit my right rear . Am I being to picky or is this rear bumper cover a horrible paint match. I know pearl white could be hard match.. Anyway complain or good enough?

My kids laughed when I showed them. I just thought I'd get some adult opinions before returning it as I haven't had to deal with body shops before. Thanks

Welcome. Blizzard Pearl is a difficult paint to match. If the tri coat Pearl is not done correctly, it will either look really white or really yellow.

Looks like they painted it 040 super white aka ice cap and it should have been blizzard pearl (I believe that’s what yours is)

That almost looks non metallic to me and not the platinum paint. Sorry to say I agree with you.

I think other poster is correct it’s ice cap. I would go back and have it redone. No way would I accept that shottt work. It’s almost like they never looked at the paint code inside the door

I'm hoping it's not paid for and removed from the paint shop, although it looks like it is. That isn't even a close color match, and no, pearl isn't hard to paint for a bodyman with skills. You can go to the shop and tell them they have to redo it, and if they're not total jack-wagons, they might redo it. But, if they are crooks they might put you on the schedule for like May 17, 2045! Good luck on this, I've had some poor bodywork in the past also, luckily, mine was painless. Totally forgot.. Welcome from Wisconsin!

Definitely looks a little off. Paint lays differently on plastic than metal, so bumpers tend to look a little mis-matched in certain light. But, even so, that looks like it's off. It's hard to tell how bad it really is without seeing in person, though.

This is the funniest thread ever. Because of the “should I let it go?” part. I think this surpassed the threshold of “struggling to paint match” and it’s into a “color blind paint guy” category.

Lol. I didn't think I was being to picky but was second guessing myself because a new to me 7 year old vehicle. I am wondering when I take it back Monday if they all act like they don't see it. Thanks for the reassurance.

Truth is, even from a great body shop, repainting a bumper will always be a tiny bit off in certain lighting versus an OEM painted metal surface…..but that much is unacceptable.

A good shop will be embarrassed and redo it. Only suggestion I have next time is look at it in all lighting, including direct sunlight, when a paint shop does a respray. Not only for the correct shade but are there equal metallic flakes as seen in the OEM paint?

I pray I never have to get my solar octane painted anywhere cuz I bet it would be a nightmare to match and I’m super picky lol.

Yeah, they'll stand, spread their elbows and be all like "what do you mean?" and try to gaslight you. What I do, is just pull a random customer that's around you, and ask them "do you see a problem here?"

What I've also done is bring a friend, but the shop doesn't know they're my friend. And he'll just act all like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!?" - bring the most alpha male friend you can get.

As per above, hopefully an insurance company is involved (yours or the person who hit you), if so insist they have it redone and if possible at a better, different shop. If no insurance, raise hell, that isn't even remotely close, horrible match and totally unacceptable. If you get jacked around, file in small claims court.

Those are great points. It is through insurance. I'll ask Farm Bureau if its possible to have another shop refinish it since the current shop is blind.

Would have been better off buffing it out and using touch up.

Yeah, go to the insurance and have them get someone who will do it right.

Most insurance companies force authorized body shops to guarantee the work for "X" amount of time, based on their contractual agreement. Now, if you chose a body shop that wasn't on the insurance company's list, they will not be able to help you.

Look at all the Tacoma front bumper covers from the factory compared to the fenders. It is terrible.

4Runner matches from the factory are much better. I had a front cover and fender replaced and re done as well, on a 4Runner. Second time was better but the front bumper cover still does not match the original fender very well in direct light. Walking by and in normal daylight you can not tell but shine a light directly at it and it is still off a bit.

Your match is way off though. How does it look outside in regular lighting conditions?

No offense but that mismatch is so bad it's hilarious.

How did the conversation go when you picked it up?
