Opinions on ceramic coating?

Alright I am thinking of getting ceramic coating but not completely convinced. I already have an appt for PPF and that I think is worth it for me. However I don't know about ceramic coating.

Does it matter if your colors are more brighter -- for instance red, black ones which "pop" more will benefit from ceramic coating more than MGM (my 4R color)

Any MGM owners want to chim in. Do you think it was worth it once it was installed? I do understand than cleaning is a breeze afterwards, but in terms of looks will it look any different in this specific 4R color?

 

Similar to a nice wax it adds some depth. Most of the results people are hyped about with ceramic coating are from the paint correction process as a part of the preparation. If you're doing ppf then you'll lose most of the depth anyway. It does last longer than wax though. If you're paying someone thousands, absolutely not worth it.

Yes, unfortunately every single quote I have received is above a thousand -- not exactly thousands but not cheap.

 

I have had it on many cars and also many without it. I am done paying for it, and have decided against it on my last two new cars. I think it makes hand washing the car easier, and also not having to apply wax is nice; but the cost/benefit is just not there for me.

 

I personally wouldn't bother with ceramic coating. I have been very happy with my Hybrid Graphene flex wax and the longevity, as well as ease of application.

yeah, the application for ceramic coating is daunting. If I can get the graphene wax done at home I will go for it rather than ceramic coating.

 

Prior to applying any PPF or ceramic coating make sure you have them do a paint correction if it needs it. Otherwise, once those products are installed it will be too late to fix without major work. Hopefully you are going to a detail shop other than the stealership to install the products. I had a paint correction done as soon as it was off the truck along with Xpel PPF. Ceramic coating was then applied on entire vehicle to protect from UVs in the AZ heat.

Just do your research on all products before you make the decision because they vary greatly along with warranties and authorized dealers. Best of luck and smart investment to protect your truck.

Ppf is better, on roof and hood, against birds droppings, all front against small stones. Rest is waste of money, as nothing stand against shopping carts and idiots swinging doors wide open on parking.

 

PPF and ceramic coating are completely different and serve a purpose. If you go with cheap products then nothing serves a purpose and a waste of money.

 

What is this "paint correction" I've seen referenced a couple of times? I tried searching the forum but didn't find any details.

 

Paint correction is correcting the swirl marks and any paint imperfections prior to applying any PPF or ceramic coating. If one happens to miss this step prior to application then one will see this until film is removed and reapplied.

Vehicles will always come with paint imperfections regardless if it comes directly from the factory. By the time it reaches the consumer it will need a paint correction done on it. Even though I advised the dealership to leave all factory wrapping on and no wash from them with a shop broom it still needed one prior to my PPF and ceramic coating.

Often times people confuse was PPF and ceramic coating do. PPF is your true protection on the vehicle and will out perform any other aftermarket stuff put on but that depends on the quality of the PPF along with an authorized installer.

Ceramic coating offers protection against UV and nothing more. It helps preserve your paint and makes it so much easier to clean off bugs, and keep a Glossy look.

Not entirely true - I've found a good set of rocksliders with a kickout to be highly effective against the aforementioned "idiot swinging doors wide open on parking".....their sudden expletive emissions make me giggle
