Hi all, just wanted to get opinions on this 4Runner's price since I'm in the market for one. It's a 22 TRD ORP with 44k miles for 42k. As far as my eyes can see, I don't see any rust and the carfax says one owner and well maintained since I could see oil changes about every 5kish miles at a dealership.

I'm not too sure if the miles are very many since I think the average in California is about 13k a year. Thank you!

    welcome here @stevent !

44k miles is on the high end for a ‘22, that’s around 77k kms (Canada), whereby I only have 100k on my 2016.

but, people rack up hwy miles and take road trips so that’s OK, sounds like it’s a clean truck.

What region is it from? Weather?
Does it say if the truck is equipped with the KDSS suspension feature?

    Thanks for the reply!

It's from Southern California, so mostly sunny. As far as the KDSS suspension feature, yes this truck is equipped with it.

And just FYI. I am looking to own this truck for a very long time :). My current Rav4 is a 2020 with only 32k, but that's because we only take it for road trips/weekend.

of course. you came to a good place to get answers.

KDSS can add comfort on pavement, it’s like a hydraulic sway bar system, sure once in a while it can fail and leak.

2022 is a nice year, includes more interior and exterior tech features. off-road edition has the best 4wd extras imo.

$42k or whatever is higher than I would want to pay cuz I also want my 4R for the long haul, lowest miles possible to start. I guess I’d recommend doing what I’m sure you’re doing and shop around for lowest miles/price

That price, right now, is not too high based on what I have seen on the lots. I would suggest a third party inspection though, can probably get that done for $250 or less but adds peace of mind. To me if you like the color, and it third party checks out and you can afford it, I say go for it.

Agreed with other posters here, seems like a fair deal if everything checks out after a third party inspection. These things hold value well enough i wouldn't worry too much if you like it.

I found a 2019 SR5 with 50,000 miles for my daughter a year ago. So 44k is on the high side.
There is a lot more to 4runner maintenance than engine oil changes, most if not all , you need to do now
Change lube both differentials, grease both drive shafts, change Transfer Case lube.
Perhaps prior owner maintained it as if it was a Camry?

My daughter and I are in SoCal. I found 4th and 5th gen all over the State. Finally I discovered the Toyota official website for pre-owned Certified Toyotas -all models. So I searched 4runners in my local area and found several at local dealers. After narrowing it down we selected the one we purchased. Also got the Gold extended warranty. A good truck is worth a ways to travel to get it, we were lucky and found one 15 miles from home.

Price sounds cool, but see if he would write the bill of sale for $20,000, saving you the additional $1,650.00 you’ll pay to Gov. Nuisance. You will still have to pay $1,500.00 in sales tax unless he’ll lower the sale price in order to offset the double taxation.

Unless it's being sold by a relative, I don't see how one could pull that off.

    Agree with glwood54.

DMV people will see that from a mile away. That used to work along time ago, now when one try’s that, they will look at you with their bad eye!

If you try that we want to hear the story!!!!

Many states' DMVs are using AI to sniff that shit out. If not AI, then just some basic algorithms and data sets. I go thru lots of vehicles and paying 8.75% on every one of them truly sucks balls but it's really not worth the risk.

Far be it for me to be an economist, but if you dont NEED to buy a vehicle right this moment, its likely we are getting into a recession and may drive prices down more in the near future.

But. Even if we are who knows if the used market will really change much.

Those are a lot of highway miles. That equals to around 10-15% of city driving. So for example, 100k highway miles = roughly 10k city or regular miles

I bought a 24 in 12/1/24 with manufacturing stamp of 2/24 it had 20k miles. 66 miles a day roughly, to me that was an indicator of highway miles. And it wasn’t detailed or anything when I bought it which honestly I liked because I got the chance to see it for what it was at that mileage so quick. Sure the frame had dirt and water marks from rainstorms, but it was either a guy/gal that worked in a city away from their home, and traveled mostly highway.

haven’t had any issues so far. Other than the regular 1 stripped out skid plate cover, and a missing oil drain skid assembly on the factory sr5 skids lol

When I purchased my 2014 TRD Sport Tacoma in 2019 it was from a San Diego County Sheriff, the purchase price was $23K. He asked me what he should write on the bill of sale as the purchased price. I said what? Oh ok, well what do you feel comfortable with? He said, I’ll write it for $13k, that will save you $750.00. I said cool, thanks! He then said to make sure I write down $13k for the sales price so we’re on the same page. He said do you have AAA? I said yes, he said don’t go to DMV for title transfer, use AAA only. That’s where I was first introduced to that approach. He told me he didn’t believe in double taxation, I was kinda shocked, but at the same time enlightened to some extent.
