I have an '02 4Runner. Last night we drained all the oil because the dip stick read overfull. Today, after cleaning and reinserting the dipstick, it still shows overfull. No change in the oil level on the stick. Help?

Oil is creeping up the dipstick tube.

Take the dipstick out. Clean it off and leave it out for 10 minutes.

Then re-insert all the way and then take it out immediately to get an accurate reading.

Why would you drain all the oil just because its overfilled? Little at a time wouldn't hurt.

I pay no attention to dipsticks. I fill them with the correct amount and thats it.

You didn't keep track of how much your drained?

Guess the dip stick is useful eh

And you don't check in between service? Just gas and go?

The dealership installed too much oil twice on me in my Corolla yes it was up to the top dot. But the top dot is like a quart and a half over full.

He drained it all because it never showed any less on the dip stick! Even after letting it sit in between.

Yes, he kept track. AND this was a check between services. Smarter than "gas and go", but thanks for the input!
