Im going to be looking into a limited 5th 2018 at the oldest or 6th gen 4runner in a year or two so trying to do a bunch of research.

I do not go off road but i do deal with deep snow and bad weather and really like the center locking differential the limited trim offers.

My question is for deep snow am i better off going with the 20" stock limited wheela or am i better off going with then TRD Pro wheels and the Nito grappler tires.

I need to be able to drive through 3.5 feet of snow.

Also any other mods that would make this easier is greatly appreciated.

I am a vol first responder and always go right to the scene.

    Thanks everyone,

Thank you for your service! I don't think the wheels you have will be a problem as long as you change out the stock tires to a tire that can better handle the conditions you will be driving in. The stock tires are not that good. I immediately changed my stock tires to BFG KO2's when I bought my 4 and they have been good in all conditions. But...

With 3.5 feet of snow you may need a lift and a lot of things as that is well above the bumpers of any stock model 4runner. May look at buying a Superduty or something much higher than a 4, or a Jeep Rubicon... :notsure:

I'd personally recommend switching to a 17" wheel. In deep snow, often it can help tremendously to air down to get a wider tread pattern to help sort of float instead of dig. You'll be able to better accomplish this with more tire sidewall; which you would get by going with a smaller wheel. Of course in either case, 3.5 feet is a whole lot of snow to break trail through!

Thank you both for your responses.
The snow that deep i would need to go through is very rare, most likely.2.5-3 feet of snow in a bad snow storm when responding to a call.

My son took my 2019 Limited from San Francisco to Tahoe recently. Highways had enough snow that his clearance by highway patrol was a close call with Continental TerrainContact LT tires on 17-inch rims, because the tires didn’t have that 3 snowflake symbol. I was able to exchange them for Falken Wildpeak A3Ws. Nonetheless, off the highway he was able to get around in a couple of feet of snow in 4-wheel Hi ( H4L)

Agreed. It's his commentary that's fun (and his tearing down his Christmas lights). In real life, any place where AAA ain't coming to get you, or your or anyone else's life is at stake, definitely err on the side of as much robustness as you can give your 4Runner.

This dude kind of reminds me of the Hydraulic Press Channel guy. Only thing missing is some Scandinavian death metal.
