Does anyone have pictures of the sliders, specifically the mounts, and a description of how they are mounted? I assume they are mounted with self-tapping bolts, directly into the frame rail, but maybe they have mounting brackets that sandwich the rail?

Also, pics are worth 10+ words.

    Thanks!

There are already holes in your frame for the bolts.

They are very easy to mount. Welded nuts are already in place. I really like the oem rails.

Thanks. I knew that, but didn't know if that meant you used self-tapping bolts (or threaded as glwood54 states), or if there was hardware used on the back side of the hole.

The pics make it look incredibly easy to install.

    Thanks all.

Sliders are super easy to install on the 5th gen ... with the exception of holding them up while getting the first couple bolts in if you are doing it solo :benchpress: Although those oem ones do not look as heavy as my Westcott's were

@hossler1788 Toyota Parts is having a Memorial Day sale with free shipping, so I have them on their way. I think they'll work well for me.

Yeah, I'll have to rig something up to hold it close while getting a bolt or two started.

Inserting a long, smaller diameter bolt in one end will help hold up that end until you can get one started on the far end.

Most people just use a couple of jack stands. Milk crates and some 2x6 pieces work too.

I'll have to use the jack stands since I ride a DR650, not a KLR.

I have a 24 ORP that didn’t come with the rock rails, found a local pair of take offs from a 24 ORP. I’m trying to get them installed and I’m just testing the bolts that came with them before putting the rails on and they don’t thread well…2-3 turns by hand and they are pretty tight. Didn’t want to risk cross threading so, I bought some high strength bolts in the same M8 size/thread…run into the same problem there. Anyone else have this issue? Can’t imagine they’d use different size bolts on the same model of 24 ORP and hard to believe that all holes I tested have an issue.

Are you talking about the frame-mounted rock rails, or body-mounted steps? For the former, it is pretty common for those threads to be pretty tight because (among other things) they're painted. Installation instructions for aftermarket rails recommend chasing the holes prior to installation, which in my case was definitely necessary.

Thanks. Yes, frame mounted rails. What do you mean by chasing the holes?

Awesome, never knew such a thing existed. Makes total sense that paint would do that too.

I highly suggest carefully threading the mounting bolts into its frame hole to clean/chase the threads in the frame threaded holes before starting assembly.
When struggling to start the bolts during the mounting installation process it is easy to cross thread.
I found my flex head ratchet box wrench more useful than my 1/4" ratchet wrench for tightening the bolts. The bolts provided appear to high grade/strength steel making the rock rail very strong. Do not overlook applying an anti rust coating on the mating surfaces.

How is using the "thread chaser" different than just spinning in a bolt one time before actually mounting an accessory?

("Thread chaser" is new to me)

Chasers typically have a little more cutting power than the bolt, but not as much as a tap. they will often go in easier than spinning a bolt. People also use them on damaged threads, for which they're generally more effective than a bolt. Reviewing threads on mounting sliders should turn up quite a few mentions of chasing the threads.

A bolt will often work, but depending on how much paint is built up on the threads, it can be more difficult.

I ran a brass bore brush in each threaded hole before mounting the rails . Works great for cleaning them out .
