Just curious if any of you have used Odyssey batteries in your 4Runner. I have been using them in my Jeeps and her 4Runner is still on the original 2016 battery (Not kidding) but it is starting to get weak.

I have had good luck with Odyssey batteries but wanted to see what the 4Runner guys think of them.

    Thanks

You can still run one without the voltage booster, but you will not get the full potential out of the battery as you will not be able to charge it enough.

I want to eventually upgrade to AGM so will do an Odyssey paired with a voltage booster.

I'm running an AGM battery right now. The alternator is putting out 14.2V at idle, which is within the charging range printed on the battery label.

Same on my 4runner I only see 14.0 - 14.1v on cold start. When driving I only see its around 13.3-13.4v. Why I prefer not to run AGM, unless I make my mind to install aftermarket voltage booster thing.

Many threads on this forum starting with something like “I upgraded to AGM but now my rig doesn’t start?!?!”

usually within 6 months or so. Usually a voltage booster is needed. But maybe I’m missing something?

AGM's are cool, but if I could buy another Toyota factory OEM (Panasonic) here in the states, I'd do that in a heartbeat vs. an AGM (or really any other battery).

4 years in and 60k on my 21 and it still tests as new. Tossed around the idea of an AGM on my FJ40 tho... haven't made the move yet. Still hoping to find a source for that Panasonic that we all got OEM in our Gen 5 Runners.

We'll see. I had an Optima in my 2nd gen Tacoma for three years at stock charging voltage with no issues. Had the same Optima model in my 3rd gen Tacoma for three years with no issues, then upped the voltage when I got a tune.

IMO the biggest benefit of an AGM battery is just that it's sealed, no sulfuric acid vapors and no acid to spill out at steep angles.
