So I bought the cheapo blackout kit from 4Runner lifestyle a few months ago. The “4Runner” pieces are already falling off. The sombrero logo seems to be holding fine.

I’ll try the OEM version next.

And yes, I used a hairdryer to heat the emblems before applying the pieces.

Further, they never fully covered the letters on the tailgate when viewed from the side. They were too shallow.

Lame, I have a knockoff kit as well, but they they've been going strong for five years now. They have full coverage so it sounds like you got some worse examples.

To help with adhesion next time, I'd recommend cleaning them with alcohol for a really clean bond.

Yeah, I prepped the surface with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water.

Did the same. Didn't stick flush/ tight. Sent them back and got a refund. OEM worked great but, pricey.

I bought the same and returned it. Quality was terrible. Inconsistent cuts and edges, tape misplaced inside the emblems. Not worth it. Sucked it up and bought OEM. Very pleased with that.

Bought mine from EB Toyota. They charge shipping but have very good part pricing.

No matter what brand you use, make sure to clean every letter/emblem surface with diluted alcohol before installing. Waxes, soaps, oils build uo and adherence will be compromised. I bought the Yotamafis version and zero issues. They've see 104° highs this spring and we had a -14° winter night.

The tape appears to be coming off the inside of the kit/letter surfaces, not the chrome 4Runner logo.

Regarding longevity, I’m mostly concerned about going through the automatic touch less car wash during the winter months. I’m not going to stop doing that just for a blackout kit. The water pressure is relatively strong.
