Hello everyone, I am new on this forum, just want to ask if anyone out there has experienced noisy front brakes on a Gen5 4-Runner. I bought a 2019 4-Runner late 2018, gave it to my daughter when her 2006 4-Runner was totaled in Feb/2020 then bought me a 2021 in Oct/2020. Both have the same squealing front brakes when cold. I live in Southern California and neither cold nor damp...normally. Any feedback? Thank you in advance!

My 2021 does the same thing. Only in the mornings though and sometimes in the afternoon. Only for a few brake presses though then goes away. My 2020 didn’t have this noise. Is your noise constant?

Yeah same here. I live in the bay area. My 2021 4R, sometimes when I leave for work in the morning I get that. Only in the mornings I experienced the squealing usually on my first stop approach.

Same for me, my wife just mentioned it to me tonight that they have been noisy on her first brake application when leaving work this week. 2021 with 1k miles, anyone know what type of pad Toyota uses on these? I know ceramic pads can be noisy until they heat up.

0C987145-253C-437D-B8E3-BC8560061338.jpg It only makes the noise the first couple braking times but it is loud, annoying and embarrassing. My daughters old 2006 4Runner never did that and was totaled with 283k miles on it. It ran smoother than my 2019 & 2021!!

Same here, my wife said it's the first few applications leaving work but it is loud she said. It's our only vehicle to do this so it caught her off guard especially being so new.

Have you checked the brakes to verify they are not worn to the wear sensors? (Mechanical wear sensors squeal to let you know they need changed!!!)

Try PFC (Performance Friction) Brake Pads if you want better performing pads.
Part # 0976.20 for front pads.
You’ll have to order thru O’Reillys.

By the way if it’s a brand new car you probably need to bed the pads in.

Good info, mine are bedded in from day one. Just started this noise deal this week about a month and a half into ownership. I will probably upgrade them down the line anyways, i didn't have good luck with my oem tacoma or tundra brakes. Maybe these are a little better then those two plus i wont be pulling anything with the T4R.

I know it is not a safety issue, just annoying and embarrassing. I will take the pads off and try some anti-squeak product on the back plates.
