Today, I did something that I have never done before and hope I never do again. After finishing a bike ride and unlocking the doors I placed my keys on the roof. I plugged my phone in before starting the truck. While the vehicle was moving and Car Play running the keys fell off the roof. Unfortunately the truck did not ever alert me that the key was missing. I actually have been able to replicate this problem. After I drove 30 miles I got home and realized what had happened and was able to return to the bike park and found my keys. The key fob had been run over and has cosmetic damage but it still works.

Just curious if anyone has ever had this happen to them. Also, does anyone know if the TRD OFP key fob shell can be replaced without an entire new fob, key and circuit board?

    Get a Mesocustoms shell.

It doesn’t appear that MesoCustom makes a shell for this fob. 947C150F-FC3C-4B23-9B74-9AEFCFD87638.jpg

His minimalist fob works, you just replace the guts and put them in his, but you lose the valet key. I have them on all 4 of my toyos.

Good thing you didn't stop for gas or otherwise shut the truck off on the way home or you'd been fucked!

This is the reason Toyota gave me for the lame excuse of remote start shutting the engine off when opening the door. Said people were driving off without the fob then getting stranded.
One would think that as soon as the fob is not detected it could give an alert. Not rocket science

That's how you learn! It's also why I like my keyed ignition. I don't have info on the replacement shell.

The dash on my '15 lights up as soon as the key is about 10 feet away. Check the manual if there is a disable function. Or, did you have your spare with you ? No signal if you did.
