I will say I normally fill up on 1/2 tank.

I've had mine down to 21 miles just earlier this week and there was still no light. Mines a 19 so it's the older gauge cluster but unless it's under 20 then no.

You have about 1 hash mark left to go before that cat will illuminate.

I’ve seen the light come on when I had around 20-30 miles left if I recall correctly

I've only seen my low fuel light go off once. It happened in the middle of nowhere on the I-40, and thought I had at least a couple gallons left in the tank. Seeing it was the first time it went off I stopped at the next exit(a few miles down) and ended up putting in 22.6 gallons. Even the range computer said I had 40 miles until empty, there's no way I could've gone another 40 miles on 2/5's of a gallon. Now I never let it dip below 1/4 tank LOL

It's gotta get down pretty low. Mine comes on when it's between the bottom line and the first line. Which is typically close to or just under a gallon remaining. I've pushed it pretty far... to the point where the range estimate was zeroed out and the needle was beyond the slash. I wouldn't worry too much, if the light comes on find a station that's convenient.

Check your owner manual. If you get a pdf of it from the Toyota website you can do a search.

In the 2018 manual it says
    “Low fuel level warning light
Indicates remaining fuel is approximately 3.5 gal. (13.1
L, 2.9 Imp. gal.) or less”

I’ve found that to be true for my 4R.

I think my 2022 was the same, I got 3 gallons or so in when the light went on, and my mpg and miles till empty was pretty dang spot on throughout ownership. My new truck is off a mile sometimes or dead on when it wants to be, maybe depends on how much I pound on the thing and let her rip.

I am one of those who tries to suck the last vapor out of a tank of gas, so to speak. Not really, but I do wait until the light comes on to fill up. I have never put more than 20 gallons to fill the tank in the 3.5 years I've had it.

Mine comes in around the 30 mile mark. At zero you'll still have 2.0 - 3 gallons in the tank.

3.5gal makes sense. I guess I've never really tried to see how much fuel I take on as soon as the light comes on. I literally try to push it further and further each time haha. When the miles to empty estimate went blank I started to get nervous  I think I got 22.6gal in the tank that time.

I tested my 2023 to know when the light would light up. It was at or very close to the last bar before the E. About 30 miles left, filled with about 20 gallons. I try to fill just I get past the 1/2 tank and before the 1/4.

Fuel tank capacity is a reported 23 gallons. When local and when the gas light comes on I usually continue to drive until convenient to fill up. I have four gas stations within a mile of my house. It seems that I am consistently putting 20.5 gallons in for a fill-up shortly after the light comes on.

I tested it out today, hit the trip reset as soon as the light came on. The needle was on the high side of the first slash, by the time I got to the nearest gas station I had driven 1.3mi and it was dead on the first slash. From the first picture I took it looks below the first slash but the second photo is from a better angle.

When I gassed up the auto shutoff got me to 18.8gal and then I continued and topped up to absolute max where it was about to overflow and got to 21.46gal.

In my experience, the miles to empty estimate is pretty accurate.

You have a ways to go before the low fuel light goes off. (1-2 more notches)

I'm on E now, you usually will have a few gallons left when truly on E. Indicator will completely clear the last dash on E when its truly empty.

BTW, you can go passed 0 miles by a little. lol

When you do that you are filling your evap canister full of gas. Fix for that can be a new canister and that's an expensive repair.

There's definitely something wrong with this. The light usually comes on when there are about 5 gallons left. When it says distance to empty is 0 miles on mine, I have about 3 gallons left. I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be.

I don't think it would still be running if you had less than half a gallon in there.

Why not? When I'm traveling, I generally drive until the light is on, and then get gas. And, usually I do the same in town.

On mine I got down to estimated 24Km(~15 miles) and the light still did not turn on. I did not want to push my luck and had to fill up.
