Hey y'all! Another member and I are planning on doing a easy trail run on January 7, 2023 (Saturday).

I'm thinking Fish Creek to Diablos Drop Off Trail. Fish Creek is pretty much a washboard trail and does not require high clearance 4WD. Devils Drop Off however, is a little more technical (slightly moderate). There's also a by-pass to avoid the drop off.

Would any other members be interested in joining? This will be a day trip you'll need to BYOB/Food :).

That’s a great run! Wish I could make it, but I will be up north that weekend. Hopefully I can mark the next trip out.

My brother and I did this run a few months back. We had to stack a few rocks for my rig to get over the gate keeper without scraping and needed rear locker, 4-lo and momentum to get up the final hill. The desert should be beautiful this time of year. Enjoy!

Sounds like fun. I have been planning to go to Fish Creek for a while now. If I don’t have to work I’ll be there.

I'm thinking we will probably meet at a gas station in Ocotillo Wells, Ca. Would 07:30-08:00 work for you all?

Update: We're making a slight change in plans. We're planning on meeting in Julian, Ca and knocking out Diablo Drop off first. From there we will connect to Fish Creek and exit out over by Ocotillo Wells.

Does this work for you all?

Also, do you guys have HAM Radios for comms?

I feel like starting on the Ocotillo side might be better we’ll end closer to home in Julian. The guys coming from OC might like that option better as well.

any particular reason for the change?

Apparently there's a one-way rule at Diablo Drop off and if we start from Fish Creek, we will be going against traffic coming down. My buddy whom recently did it, suggested starting from Diablo Drop off and working our way out from Ocotillo Wells. He's coming from Santa Clarita...

    What do you think?

I came out onto Sweeny Pass road (ran from fish camp south to Diablo and out - didn’t realize this was one way ‍♂️). Sin Nombre Canyon was spectacular if you can add it to your agenda you won’t be disappointed. Getting off the road and onto the trail is probably the trickiest spot of the whole day (except the drop-off, but I expect it’s easier the direction y’all are planning). Enjoy!

Also, we were on the trail 4-5 hours but both fish camp and sweeny are really remote. Not a lot of services near either trailhead so gas up in Julian or Borrego Springs.

When I lived in SoCal, my ex and I took our FJ40 on that run=loads of fun. Bring a CB to communicate between rigs if you can.

How har out of the way is Sin Nombre Canyon? I've been seeing that pop up lately. Might have to look into this.

Do you think trail conditions will be affected by all this rain?

(I’m seeing a trend that most places are closed after heavy rains)
