Hey everyone, new to Toyota and figured I better jump on some forums. I’m a Suzuki Samurai guy through and through, owned more than I can count. But I recently started elk hunting here in Colorado and a samurai just won’t cut the load and drive there.
Anyways I picked up a 95 4Runner with a 3.4l motor and tranny swap. 4Runner has 226xxx on the body and unknown on the swap motor and tranny. It’s rust free with 1 dent on the rear corner, sliders and front & rear bumpers. I’ll be inspecting the timing belt in the next few days and making a list of everything I want to fix. Welcome! I'm unfamiliar with the 2nd gens but what year does the 3.4L come from? Is that a power bump over what i assume was the original 3.0L?

So the 2nd gen is from 1990-1995 and yes they had the 3.0 that liked to go through head gaskets. 3rd gen is from 1996-2002 and they got the better 3.4l. Probably my favorite difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen is the 2nd gen’s have a real tailgate vs a lift gate on the 3rd gen’s. I am super happy with the 3.4l I can cruise down the highway at 75-80 no problem at all with 33s and a lift.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. So I did the little trick to check the timing belt and it’s definitely not original but it’s definitely not new. So I’ll be ordering the timing belt kit with all the goodies while I’m in there. I do have an upgraded aluminum radiator with electric fan so shouldn’t be an all bad job.

Oh and I managed to run to the pick and pull to look for little parts and goodie’s. Only found a few Toyota’s. Found a few useful things but now I know I can call and find out what they have in the yard.
