Hey everyone. My wife always wanted a 4runner and it just happens a friend has one for sale... a 95 manual sr5

that’s all I know... and am trying to do research to see what I’m in for.

I go overboard on my builds and have a go fast prerunner already.. this will be more of a camping vehicle for us and the two kiddos.

but we will invest in quality suspension, strong axles, selectable lockers, better brakes, 35’s or 37’s if I can find a power adder for the engine.

anyways, if anyone can help me determine if this 95 falls into a 2nd Gen or a 3rd Gen.

it appears to be a 3rd Gen but this forum says 3rd Gen starts in 96!

any other guidance would be appreciated!

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
The 22RE is a good engine. It isn't the most powerful, but it'll push around a 4Runner loaded with 5 kids, 3 adults, and a bunch of survival/recovery gear. It did in Yuma, I know that. Maybe not the best acceleration, but it get's the job done, no question.

Do the maintenance it needs, and it'll last forever, too.

    Good luck!

Thank your lucky stars its the 22re and not the 3vz v6 that came on most. The 3vz was one of the worst engines ever made by Toyota, known for blowing head gaskets and drinking gas and not having much additional power to show for it vs the 22RE. Welcome to the forum.
