A ticking noise from the engine but the ticking does not increase with RPM. Ticking goes away mostly after warm up. Dealer says nothing to worry about. Agree? Maybe Variable valve timing ?

    Currently stock; MODS coming soon.
I believe its normal; my 4runner and Tacoma both makes a clicking noise when engine is turned on.

Can you post a video clip?

As mentioned already, the 1GR is a noisy engine. I was concerned when I noticed it on my Taco, but it was the same at 100K as it was at 45K miles.

If it came out of nowhere, that's a little weird.

Are you sure it's not the click noise that comes and goes from the molding on the outside of the windshield? Mine started up about 5k miles on it and went away within a week or two. Sounded more like it was coming from the right side of the dash.

I switched to Toyota 0-20wt engine oil. used mobil 1 synthetic 0-20wt .. engine ticks loud when on a cold start.. then I used Toyota 0-20wt spec SN PLUS .. the SN + has moly in it.. so when the engine cold starts the moly sticks to the cams/lifters and the engine makes less ticking noise..
cost is a bit more $7.30 QT..need 6.5QTS for the oil change..
I only paid $28 for 6qts of the Mobil oil but toyota oil does a better noise reduction and slightly higher MPG.
    TRY IT..
