I just saw a run through video of the TRD Pro on FB, they definitely took some pointers from all the off road features of the Bronco. And adjustable Fox shocks! Nice upgrades to the TRD Pro trim.

I'm reserving enthusiasm until I see pricing. If this is going to be another $36,000 dumbass fest we riot.

Looks awesome. Putting 33's as stock on the upper levels is a big plus. Depending on pricing, this should keep the Taco as the best selling mid size for a long time to come. Good looking interior too.

    36k??

More like 50-55k or more is my guess for the loaded models. The ford ranger raptor is like 55-60

Nobody's talking about the Raptor, Scott Malkinson. "I'm Scott Malkinson and I have a big chub for big expensive trucks." Shut up, Scott Malkinson.

Look at the "let's laugh at the new Ford Ranger" topic. The new Ford Ranger starts at like $36,000.

And you can probably expect the off road models to start around there too. The Pro will probably be north of 50 and the Trailhunter even higher.

Initially, I do not care for the styling of the new body style. Just like I think the new Tundra is fugly. But I will wait until I see the new Tacoma for myself. Not going to buy one as I plan to keep my 2nd Gen Tacoma until it dies.

Eh, I don't care about the body style so much to write it off. I do like that they're bringing back the closest thing to a two seater that we might ever get. I don't like it as much as I would a regular standard cab, but it might not be awful.

I do like my access cab, and would buy another one. And the standard transmission. I couldn't get one of those when I bought my 2015 TRD Sport AC. Not a fan of the turbo. Sorry, I am suspicious of what it does to engine reliability. (Iknow @Thatbassguy that you like the turbos...).

I'm very surprised about the engine, I knew the 4 cylinder would probably be the volume seller but no V6 is surprising.

I wish I could find the dimensions of the new one, it looks larger, which I don't like at all. The current Tacoma is larger than the T100, and the T100 was meant to be Toyota's alternative to the F150 back in the day, that's how oversized modern vehicles have become. They need to go in the other direction.

Noticed that the Tacoma turn signals are now red, I don't know if the current Tacoma is that way, either way bad Toyota. This country is really backwards letting car makers make the turn signal the same color as the brake light. Amber turn signals do more to stop rear end accidents than the addition of a 3rd brake light, and the indifference automakers have about this irritates me to no end.

Anyway, no more turn key, no more V6, and no more 4wd shift lever. But it does have an access cab and a manual. That front air dam looks hideous and Toyota know it, it's needed to get the advertised fuel economy (whatever that is) but everyone will remove it. How long before a Trail Hunter owner hydro locks their engine thinking they have a snorkel?

I don't necessarily like turbos. But, I like power. And, I like fuel economy. So, more of both is pretty appealing to me.

Reliability will be unknown for awhile. Hopefully, first year bugs are minimal. I'm hoping Toyota manages to get it right.

Really? Seems like we've known the 6 was probably on its way out for awhile now.

I knew the current V6 wouldn't continue on, but I'd of expected the detuned V6 found in the Tundra. I'm surprised that they are using the same engine across the whole lineup, the difference is tuning mostly.

    The Frontier has a V6

I thought the Tundra was just using a turbo 6 for all trims? Or, are they using that awful 2GR FKS?

The current Tundra is using all V6, the lower trims have twin turbo V6 while the higher trim has the hybrid "i-force max" system

I don't think the Tundra was using the 2GR-FKS at all, it might of been an option early in the previous generation but for most of that it was solely available with the V8. But that was 2nd gen.

I wonder what the next 4runner will have. I imagine the 4runner will get offered with the highest engine option that the Tacoma has.

Speculation has been the 4Runner would get the same motor options minus the entry level de-tuned 2.4L the Tacoma's getting.

Yeah, the turbo 6 would be kickass. But, I just don't ever expect Toyota to do anything crazy like that.

Hopefully this 4 can be a winner. I totally don't blame people for being concerned about reliability. But, I'm trying to be optimistic.

I don't know about this. Lots of great stuff, but also lots of stuff that traditionally has reliability issues such as a huge number of electronic nanny devices. A 4cyl turbo in a mid-size pickup rolling on 33's also seems counter intuitive...

I think we all suspected that this was the direction that Toyota was going due to the new Tundra; smaller displacement motors, turbos, hybrids, more nanny electronics, less modification and aftermarket friendly body styles and suspensions, and questionable reliability.

My local Toyota dealer currently has 42 new Tacomas sitting on the lot and I suspect that the introduction of the new Tacoma is going to result in some awesome deals on the old ones. I may just bite.

Toyota will get it right eventually.
However folks who are in it for the fuel economy will be unhappy. The truth is whole reason why everyone is going smaller engines is to make EPA happy. In real life turbo engines don't produce as much gas savings as OEMs will have you believe.
There is no denying more power, however. Just don't expect to get close to OEM advertised mpg, when numbers come out.

Tacoma Sport. The video I posted above has this trim. Also few more interesting things like Tacoma with Full time 4wd and Tacoma with sway bar disconnect.

    Edit -

Forgot to mention about the rally style seat. Watch the videos on the Tacoma.

I agree about fuel economy, to an extent. I think, if driven conservatively, they might get the advertised numbers. I think a lot of people just drive too aggressively to get the maximum fuel economy.

Agree 100%. Its more to do with -- I have turbo lets see what this thing can do -- than engines themselves being inefficient necessarily in real world driving.

Correct. Not a good place for a handle next to the stick shift. Might lead to grabbing the wrong thing by a passenger.
