Hello all. Decided to trade my 22 Tacoma OR over the weekend and jump to a 23 4R Pro. I’d been toying with the idea for a while after being yet again disappointed with my second 3rd gen Tacoma, but being offered more than I paid for it new in trade really sold the swap. Im much happier with the runner so far. Looking forward to partaking in the discussion.

Thanks. Seemed like a pretty common jump. After finally deciding to spend some time with one at the dealer I could see why!

It's a beautiful truck wrapped in the worst powertrain. My 17 was an automatic, which was the most frustrating vehicle i've had in a long time. People always cite gear hunting as their issue, but that wasn't it for me. I live In a place with many rolling hills, and it would always burry itself in 6th gear at lower speeds and never want to let go. To the point where the truck was bucking and pinging from being bogged so bad. I then got a 22 manual thinking that would alleviate the AT issues, which it did, but I was still disappointed. The manual has 4.30 gears, so power was a little better, but still felt lacking. A lot of people did a tune to help with the power band, but I didn't want to go that route.

The other thing that kind of ruined the driving experience for me in the manual was the clutch pedal is a huge fat piece of plastic that doesn't leave much space at all against the dead pedal. Most of the time my shoe was touching the pedal and the kick plate. Forget trying to wear a boot.

Welcome! Similar/different story here. I loved my 2nd gen Taco Sport LB that I owned for 5 years before the BMW-bug bit me..

I testdrove both an auto and stick 3rd gen Taco ORs, but found issues with both so I ended up buying a 2016 4R TE.

The problem I noticed with the auto tranny was the gear-hunting at incline. More concerning was the problem I noticed with the stickshift. I experienced rev-hang while applying/modulating the brakes, which was scary.

Great that the trade-in worked out for you. I'm on my second 4R. I bet you'll love yours.

Thanks! Yeah, the manual definitely had rev hang. What's weird was some gears were worse than others. 1-4 had a pretty significant hang, but 5-6 drops like a stone. I always had to quick shift 5th to keep the rpms from dropping too far.

My first truck was a lifted 84' full size Bronco. Runner feels like little brother compared to that thing ;)
