New Pre-owned 4runner

Finally pull the trigger and got myself a 4runner

I'm 28 and looking to get into some off roading adventures or simply taking my pups to places. Any first mods as suggestions?

Also is a lift really necessary?
Any advice would be great and appreciated! Thank you all!

 

Start off stock and enjoy how it is! You just spent a lot of money after all!

I think mods should come depending on what limitations you encounter on the trail and if you want to overcome those. The 4Runner is plenty capable stock and I personally plan to leave mine as-is. Maybe tires if the ones on there don't stack up to what you want to do, but they look like they can definitely get you started.

 

I agree with Icebear. Use it as is for now and the vehicle will tell you what you need. Can’t go wrong with a good set of all terrain tires. I would start with that if that’s something you are interested in.

I recommend driving it as it for at least a month. Taking advice on this forum on upgrades will be based on others opinions and experiences.. not yours. You need some seat time first so you have a base to start from.

Hey, welcome aboard! Just got mine end of June, 2023. Left it stock except for some PPF and window tint. Took it out two weeks ago for some mild off-roading. Hard pack, sand dunes, amazed at its capabilities. This was in a bone stock 4Runner with stock tires at 32 psi. Heck, I took it out of 4wd high range back to 2wd on the way back to camp about 4-5 miles with no problems. Yeah, it spun a little on take off in the sand until it hooked up but after that just kept up my momentum with no problems. Passed a line of Subaru’s with the lead vehicle stuck and two of his cohorts with recovery straps trying to pull him out, I just waved as I passed by. I’m going to wait for the stock tires to wear out before purchasing all terrain tires because I’m a cheapskate and enjoy the ride, along with gas mileage. Congratulations on your purchase and your service to our country. Oh, by the way, my pooch had his head out the window the whole time while off-roading with his nose just sniffing to beat the band!

10 grand will turn that into an absolute beast on the trail. Great trim choice! Congrats!

 

First start with better tires and a Viper cut. And keep adding stuff as you go.
That part is cut away, it is called a Viper cut. Super helpful offroad.
