Have a daughter turning 16 soon and am wanting to add another Toyota to the lineup. I currently have two cruisers, tundra and sequoia. Would like to get her a 4 runner or possibly a highlander. Any years better than others? Would like to stay under $25,000, if possible. Should I post this inn another forum or okay to put here? TIA!

under $25,000? Yikes..!! That would be hard in current market.

I got my wife a new 4Runner Limited full-time 4wd with 3rd row and automatic running boards. This got the ticket over Lexus GX460 and Highlander Limited/ Platinum(with new TV-AWD system). Most gas Highlanders got just Dynamic Torque Control AWD vs XSE, Limited, Platinum trims got Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system.

My wife had issues with the SR5 having to switch 2wd & 4wd. She could not use the manual 4wd selector on my TRD, its too hard for her. So AWD/ full time 4wd was my option.

    Edit-
Since its for your child I want to remind you that 2021+ 4runners have Toyota safely sense as added safety . Also LED Headlights. Sorry couldn't help myself as a dad thinking about these avoiding your price request on this post.

We are in the TX panhandle where it does snow on occasion. My budget can be expanded if need be.

We went to the other end of the price spectrum and paid well under $25k for our youngest daughter’s 4Runner. It’s a 2005 2WD Limited with 173k when purchased, 205k now. A few rough cosmetic items, but engine and tranny were and still are flawless. We paid $7,000 in 2019. Different time and used car market, sure, but we’re thankful for that deal, and thankful she drives a safe, reliable vehicle.

Welcome. If you’re looking for AWD and some cargo space, I’d take a look at the Corolla Cross. It has all of the safety features, available AWD, good on gas, and insurance premiums will be lower.

    Welcome!

Between a 4Runner and Highlander for my daughter, I would go Highlander. It’s more practical. Not as cool, but it’s is more practical for a daily.

I bought a 2018 SR5P w115k (4wd) for my 16yo. Previous owner had tinted windows and added pro wheels, but otherwise unmodified. Purchased in Jan ‘23 for $29k in southwest Missouri. It’s a solid ride and my daughter is beside herself. It took a while to find a good deal and had to travel 200 miles to pick it up. It was worth it. She’s already waxed it twice.

edit to add: our other family vehicles are tundra and sequoia

We have both the 2022 4Runner and 2018 Highlander.
Driving experience btw the two - Day and Night.

Would recommend the AWD Highlander 2019 > for your daughter.
