New Member: Greetings from NJ...soon to ME (if all goes well)...

Hey Everyone-

Not a 4Runner owner yet, but I'm told this was the place to come to do my pre-purchase homework...

Not to bore you too many details hopefully...I've been pining for a 4Runner most of my adult life but the age-old equation of gas mileage x commuting distance just never made it a good fit for my life. My first wife and I *almost* bought her a 2012 Limited but it got beat-out by a 2012 Explorer because of the great lease deals at the time, plus she didn't like the ride of the Toyota (and she wonders why we're divorced - sorry...bad joke). Fast-forward to today...my current missus and I are starting to make retirement plans that will have us relocating from central NJ (Flemington) to either just north of Portland or the Boothbay Harbor area of Maine in the next few years...as soon as my kiddos are both out of high school. She's been driving a Lexus NX for years (and probably will always have one) which gets fantastic gas mileage, so the idea of a 4Runner as my "forever vehicle" is starting to make a lot more sense...especially in Maine, with a couple of dogs, etc.

My plan was to wait a couple of years to pick up a gently used '24 model because I like the longevity factor of the current 6-cyl motor, plus I'm not sure the new 4-cyl turbo mill that's rumored for '25MY will see the same kind of reliability (I've already heard it doesn't get any better gas mileage in the Taco than the old motor did). However, at the same time our neighbor is the orig owner of a 2012 Limited with <100k miles in excellent shape he's looking to sell....which does have my mind straying from my plan a bit...

Same boat Tim, really, really wanted a 4Runner, but kids, work, house payment all closed that door real quick. Retired on 08/2020, got my 4Runner on 06/2023. Just a real solid, capable, dependable vehicle. Best decision I’ve ever made. Welcome to the forum!
