New guy - looking to buy

Hello forum - I've been looking on/off for 4-5 years for a 1st gen and have missed a few trucks looking back I wish I would have bought. My son is now 15 and is really itching for me/him to find a good option. I'm pretty flexible on options, I go back and forth on which engine to get but I definitely want a manual so he knows how to drive stick. I'm willing to spend to get a clean truck, not the guy looking for a deal. I'm always on CL it seems the good ones go to quickly for me. Any and all insight into helping with a purchase is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

 

Personal opinion would be stay away from the 3.0L engines, they’re horrible and always have issues.

 

Thanks - I've heard the same. I'm getting to the point where I would consider an engine swap if the bones were solid and price was right...is that crazy stupid? I've had 2005, 2009 and now 2019 Landcruiser and my wife has 2014 4runner so I love me some Toyota!
