Buying this 2008 4Runner (2WD) with the VVT-i V6 motor with 159K miles this Wednesday for my 17 year old Son. Trucks in good shape. The only fix I'll have to do is the rear hatch wont open. You can hear the electric motor, but it doesn't unlatch. I watched a youtube video on this issue and it appears that actual latching mechanism is rusted and will need to be either removed and lubed up with WD40 and then probably some lithium grease, or just replacing it.

Any other normal issues with this year truck I should be concerned with?

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

For the time being, you might be able to get the hatch to open by pushing in on the hatch while the mechanism operates. I got by like that for a few years before I replaced the mechanism.
