Greetings from Texas! We are looking to buy our next 4 runner and begin modifying to fit our camping and outdoors adventures.

Previously had a 2019 4 runner SR5 and sold it to try the rv world. After a year, we decided rv’ing wasn’t our style. So, we sold our truck and rv and going back to the 4 runner. This time, we want to upgrade to 4x4 just not sure which model. We want to put a tent package on the roof, I’m sure there are better terms for this but newbie here so learning. Possibly change suspension package etc.

I had a 2019 Tacoma Sport with Icon adjustable 2” lift suspension with AAL in rear, 285/17 with -12 offset wheels. Loved this package but new job and commute didn’t work for this truck so I had to sell her.

So, we have a commuter and soon will be back in a 4 runner. Excited to start looking and eventually purchase our new ride!! I look forward to meeting everyone and learning all about the 4runner world!

If you are going to do any moderate off roading, I suggest buying a TRD Off-Road. The TDR comes with a locking rear differential as well as other off-road features. Crawl control, multi- terrain and get the syntex seats. When those get dirty, you just wipe them off.

I bought an SR5 and I wish I had spent the extra money on a TRD. The SR5 will do 90% what the TRD does. It's the other 10% when the locker/crawl control/multi terrain will be needed.

Just purchased our 2022 TRD pro from family toyota of burleson up by you! No markup, we worked with Dustin and mat. Other dealers up that way had a pretty big markup on TRD pros.

Good luck! You’ll be stoked on whatever 4R you decide on. We are loving ours!

The SR5 Premium gets you the Softex seats. I think MTS and crawl control are kind of useless (JMO) so the only thing I miss is the rear locker. So far, ATRAC has worked to get me where I need to go.

    Welcome from North Carolina.

roof top tents (RTT) are nice. Most people running a RTT on a 4Runner get an aftermarket roof rack (ie: Gobi). I like iKamper and they are a premium but super nice.

It depends on how much off-roading you plan on doing and where you plan on off-roading, how many passengers you plan on having, etc.

I have a heavily modified SR5P that far outdoes factory. Depending on what you are looking to get into you are going to want a couple things… I would read my thread on what I did because your going to want things like an Air compressor, lift, off-road tires, off-road recovery, etc. if you plan on going deep into the woods. Plus communication equipment.

    https://www.4runners.com/threads/4runner-fun-build.21019/

Here is a list of my modifications:
    - GOBI roof rack and ladder
    - Westcott Design Rock sliders
    - M.O.R.E. Underbody Skid plates
    - Dual ARB air compressor & ARB single compressor
    - LED interior lighting
    - Ironman 2.0 meter awning and enclosure
    - Ironman winch with factor55 hook
    - Ironman foam cell pro suspension
    - Ironman recovery snatch rope
    - Ironman recovery traction boards
    - lilbscustomfab Hybrid Front Bumper
    - lilbscustomfab BMC
    - RRW RR7-H Hybrid Beadlock wheels
    - Nitto Trail Grapplers 285/75/17 M/T
    - 4.88 gears
    - ARB front air locker
    - ARB rear air locker
    - Hi-lift jack & mount
    - Sony aftermarket speakers
    - LASFIT External LED Light Conversion
    - Center console organizer
    - Glovebox organizer
    - ICS mount
    - C4 rear bumper with dual swing arms
    - C4 gas skid plate
    - C4 rear diff skid plates

I would look into aluminum for protection if you plan on having a lot of luggage and a RTT or you will hit your max payload quickly.

anyways I hope this helps and we love pictures so as soon as your get it post a picture and maybe start a thread on the things you do to it.
