Got my 2005 4Runner, 2WD, Sport Edition, V-6 (1GR-FE) since new (odometer was around 17 miles) from the Toyota Dealer in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.

We have been in Erie, PA; Amarillo, TX; and Cleveland, OH
    The odometer is now 257k.

It has stayed totally stock to this day 1GR-FE V6.

I have done all mechanical maintenance by the book and have repaired:
    1) A/C compressor w/ evaporator (a lot of disassembly work), condenser, dryer.
    2) Driveshaft u-joint replacement (in late fall) 2 years ago.
    3) Alternator replacement 4 years ago.
    4) Just completed a head gasket job (Another bear of a job).
The machine shop rebuilt the heads, with FEL-PRO seals I purchased with the head set. Did not use OEM gaskets, but a beffier FEL-PRO 26330 PT, multi layered steel construction head gaskets. Replaced all rusted parts +VVT solenoids that broke when removing them.
    5) Now in the process of taking off the timing chain cover, to re-set the oil pump o-ring, as it seems that the o-ring slipped during re-assembly. I got "0" oil pressure when started the car!

This time, I'll place the FIPG on the cover bottom also (instead of on top of the oil pan front) ,remove the two lower studs, remove the crank oil seal, to lower the cover in place, in order not risk to drag the o-ring. Then I'll install the crank oil seal last after bolting down the cover.

A lot of work, but cheaper than replacing the truck or engine.
I'll post some tips on how to do this if it works! :)

Got an update for the oil pump in the timing cover.
Just took off the cover, and discovered the cause for the low oil pressure. A wad of FIPG (Toyota P/N 00295-00103) got dragged along the o-ring, and prevented the o-ring from achieving a positive seal. Thursday, I'll reinstall the cover and check the oil pressure while cranking it. Without the water pump or accessories installed. If I get positive pressure on the oil filter sensor port, then I'll re-install the accessories and parts to run the engine and check again the oil pressure.

BTW. Found this AISIN FIPG (AB1207B1) cross-referenced to Toyota 08826-0080.
Checked out the cross-reference and, it is advertised to be used for timing cover, water pump passages, oil and suitable for coolant (both long life, and super long life)
This could be helpful if anyone else does a HG job, and cannot find the FIPG that Toyota states in their repair manual to use, since it has been discontinued.

    Thanks for the welcome!
    Have all a great day!
