Folks, im on the market for a new 4runner and trying to figure out which model rides best on highway. I test drove the limited awhile ago and sort of experienced a bounce in the ride and quite honestly didnt ride nearly as smoothly at my current 04 sport with 4.7. I was rather disappointed and wondering if the lower models like the SR5 has a better ride? I cannot find one at any of the dealers to test drive. thx!

My 2019 SR5 Premium rides nice on the highway. Have taken several trips (2000+ miles each) with no real problem and I have a bad back (several compression fractures).

I am just guessing but I would say the Limited rides the best on highway. It has highway tires mounted on 20 inch rims

My 2022 (Trail, so basically SR5) had a very bouncy ride until I figured out the dealership never deflated the tires down from the 55psi that is set for transportation. It's possible they didn't air down the tires. Fixing that and adding a set of rear sumo springs has made the ride very comfortable on road.

Stock SR5 with E load 265 Nitto Ridge Grapplers rides great, no complaints.

I can’t speak to the Limited, but all other trims have the same shocks with the exception of the Pro.

My experience was opposite. Three years ago liked limited and drove it, SR5 and the ORP all on same road and same day (when there was stock remember those days)

Anyway, I thought all were great but to my surprise I thought both the ORP and SR5 handled much better especially down some roads with pot holes it was spring time.

I initially was going to buy a limited and for the ride reason plus not to look like a soccer Mom I went for ORP. Plus I read about the Xreas issues with Limiteds.

to me the ORP was less stuff to break and I liked things like hood scoop and manual 4WD lever that SR5 did not offer.

We are all different though in what we want.

See if you can find some used SR5 or ORP to drive. That will give you a baseline at least. Still may be a challenge to find though

For me so far Limited Xreas has the best ride on highway absorbing the cracks and potholes well.

TRD Pro Fox is the opposite. I can feel every bump and crack on road. But on trails it has more control. For example when the 4r dropping from a rock the shock does not feel too soft.

Limited has the best setup for a comfortable ride, minus the skinny tires. If you swap them out with some before tires it’ll soften up the ride. Tires are just as important for ride as suspension is.
