New 4 Runner, what should I look out for?

I just bought a 4 Runner, and I want to learn things that I gave to look at first. Listen, I bought this thing for 1000$, and it runs and drives great. But I want to make sure I don't kill it before I get to actually drive it. What are the first things that I should look at to make sure it runs in tip top, before I start modding.

Check for rust, especially the frame

 

Welcome. Make sure that all of the maintenance is up to date, especially the high mileage critical stuff. I would have a reputable mechanic do an inspection and give you a list of things that need attention. Once you have that list, you can start to attack the most critical items and work your way through the list.

 

I would get all fluids changed unless you know when they were last done. When was the timing belt last done? Should be a sticker under the hood.
