    I recently bought a 1999 Limited. 201k miles, for $4000. And I think I got a bargain.

Good points: Runs like new. Undercarriage totally rust free. Has been garage-kept so the paint looks very nice. History of regular oil changes. Clean CarFax.

Bad points: Driven by drivers who could not park without hitting something. Broken parking light, broken tail light, rear bumper corners badly dented. Driver's seat badly worn. Sunroof doesn't open. It almost surely has the original timing belt.

What I've done so far: Driver's seat bottom reupholstered and looks good, broken parking light and tail light replaced, wobbly gear shift lever repaired with new bushings, clock fixed, rear bumper ends ordered and received. I will have to paint them before install.

Thank you, fellows, for the warm welcome. I originally did most of my research and reading on the "other" 4Runner forum which seems to have a lot more activity but the requirement to have 15 posts before originating a thread makes it hard to ask questions.

I'm including a few pictures to illustrate my prize.

Rear of frame. The rest of the frame looks like this too. I took the picture after I removed the rear bumper for repair.

Gear shift bushings before replacement. Reduced to powder. Lever really wobbled.IMG_1568[1].jpg

    Driver's seat before repair.

Driver's seat after repair. I only replaced the driver's seat cushion, not the back. This was the closest Ebay color match I could find. Most were way too brown. I also replaced the foam beneath the seat cover. Nice and firm now.

A little more information... It's a 2 wheel drive. I'm pretty sure it's never been off the pavement. The trailer hitch also I think is unused. The original selling dealership must have wanted to jack up the price so the gold emblems were an added item. The picture below shows the rear bumper damage. I have new end pieces to replace the dented ones, but they are in black primer so will need silver touch-up aerosol cans before I can install them. Paint on order now. The dent in the center rear bumper section I have hammered out. Not perfect but better. Rear windshield wiper a very hard to find item. Also on order.

great find...go under...and scope out any potential rust, and take it out...replace timing belt when time and budget, allows..and you'll be rewarded with a solid ride..as you continue to tweak her...not uncommon to rack up 300,000 + miles on gen 3's
